Description

Although many of its features are more simplistic than Sonicare's top electric brushes, the basics remain the same. The ProtectiveClean 5100 has a sleek design, a two-week battery life, and plenty of brushing modes and intensities to play around with. A Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 comes with:

With the ExpertClean 7300 that I am reviewing here comes a premium travel case. Unlike most travel cases, this one allows the brush to be charged inside it. Oral-B has also replaced its previous drive system with a linear magnetic motor. The main advantage of this change is that it is a more powerful brush. Also noteworthy is the fact that it runs significantly quieter than other Oral-B models, though still slightly louder than sonic toothbrushes. Brush sync technology reminds when to replace the brush head and sets the correct mode for the attached head There are a few similarities that Oral-B's brush heads have with Philips Sonicare brush heads. They are both slightly smaller than traditional brushes and they offer a variety of bristle patterns for different purposes. However, the bristles on Oral-B heads are sometimes placed at angles. They claim this is to get better access to the small areas in between teeth. The microUSB port is on one edge of the case. There are no LED’s on the outside to make it clear that the brush is charging. When connected to power, the handle does vibrate and make a sound. If the case is open, you can see the charge lights on the handle flash also.

The Philips Sonicare 7900 charging stand is lighter and uses up less countertop space than Soniacre 9000. Both charge wirelessly, though the design differs. Whilst there is a very strong logical explanation as to why it is not financially viable for Sonicare to collect, repair and return a faulty toothbrush, such a blatant remark comes across as quite wasteful.

Built and sealed inside the brush handle is the rechargeable battery, the brush motor and the other electronic components needed to make this brush function.

There have been many studies on cleaning ability that compare Sonicare to Oral-B in terms of brushing ability and technique, but on the whole, there is no scientific consensus either way. Some studies favour one toothbrush and some favour the other, while some find that they are more or less equal. However, there are other factors that can help you choose your preferred brand. Are all Oral-B brush heads interchangeable? If you prefer oscillating and pulsating motion, then Oral-B's 3D cleaning action may be the better choice for you. But, if you're looking for a quieter motor and modern design, then Sonicare could be the way to go.

This, in turn, leads me onto what is, in my opinion, quite a big failing with the ExpertClean. Particularly in comparison to how other Sonicare Bluetooth enabled brushes function.

This obviously affords you great customization and flexibility; in case you’ve teeth that are sensitive or gums you are able to choose the low intensity setting. On the other hand you might boost the intensity level if you’re comfortable with it. Nevertheless, it’s suggested to use intensity level three. The ExpertClean will alert you, via an amber light on the brush handle, when you need to replace the head. They clip onto a metal shaft that extends from within the brush handle and ultimately delivers the sonic vibration from the motor to the bristles of the head. I will explain more about the brush heads shortly.

The other innovative features of this toothbrush based on technical, aesthetic and performance specifications are as follows: Philips Sonicare 9000 Diamondclean is mainly sold in pairs (you get two brush heads and two C3 brush heads) while Sonicare 7900 offers one handle but four whitening brush heads. The main brush handle itself has the Philips Sonicare logo on the front, centred, in the upper third of the handle.
