Now that the school festival is done, it’s November and that means exams plus the slow arrival of Christmas and the inexorable follow-up of Valentine’s Day. Romance is in the air, but it’s not coming from the places you might expect… Not any time soon, anyway. By January 2023, the manga had over 1 million copies in circulation. In 2023, Skip and Loafer won the 47th Kodansha Manga Award in the general category.

this slice of life/comedic subtle teen romance has my heart like nothing else has. the wholesome levels are out of this world. these japanese storytellers and mangakas do teens in a way that i love, unlike the usual western ideal and even according the stereotypical japanese way we see often, and it's such a breath of fresh air. they cutely dismantle the stereotypes or straight up throw it out of the window to reveal us a little bit of the characters' insecurities, boundaries and all their potential depth (no deep dive, just introductions). just made to be normal japanese teens who also do x and say y. just normal girls and boys and folks.

this is my second time reading skip and loafer and it's literally so cute, i can never get enough of these precious and wholesome teens!! teeny bits of spoilers ahead - ENCONTRARÁS: Aventuras adolescentes en el instituto 🏫, la presión de los exámenes 🙇‍♂️, el valor de la amistad 👯‍♂️ y la importante de tener una buena autoestima y ver el potencial y el valor de uno mismo durante esta época tan crucial en la vida. 🌱 And there’s a ton of introspection from everybody and it’s all wonderful. Mika has a bittersweet recognition of the limits of her crush now that she and Mitsumi are friends, Yuzu continues to be annoyed by everybody trying to date her because of her looks, and Makoto and Mitsumi develop feelings and stuff. I'm also VERY excited about this potential romance that looks like is happening! Be still my heart, I. Am. Here. For. It!

Mitsumi's class decides to put on a stage play for the cultural festival. Shima feels uncomfortable about acting, but agrees to it when asked. Mitsumi is too busy with the student council work to participate, but she eagerly agrees to help. Shima worries whether Mitsumi is taking on too much. Mitsumi falls asleep while working and fails to review the script as promised. Mitsumi overhears her classmates complaining about her. When Shima tries to cheer her up, Mitsumi breaks down crying because she in turn realizes she has not been looking out for her friend. Shima begins performing his song and dance in front of Mitsumi, and she joins in. As she starts feeling better, she comes up with suggestions to improve the play for her classmates.

It is finally winter (associated with snow which is viewed romantically in some parts of Asia) and the kids are finally conscious of love and romance. Mitsumi faces new challenges as winter arrives and Valentine’s Day approaches. Skip and Loafer Volume 7

Kanechika, the drama club's president, recognizes Shima as a child actor from some years ago, but Shima curtly tells him to drop the topic. Henderson, Alex (April 4, 2023). Except not - this story is a testament to friendship and also about having a little more faith in yourself. It’s really well done across the board. Not only in how easy it is to take something the wrong way when you have low self-esteem, but also in showing how good friends are just there when you need them to be.i'm excited to meet them yet again all the cast of freshman highschoolers. they are so adorable!! mitsumi is such a dork and has a way to bring in people and making them feel at ease, sousuke is rightly tagged as the golden retriever boy in this (im so riding for them - have a weakness for a well-done weirdo-ish fmc and golden boy mmc frienship/romance). as for yuzuki murashige, she's my girl, she's a girl's girl and i will protect her with my life too. i want to see a great change in mika egashire, i think she has a story to tell though her actions are rlly deplorable. i'm excited to see how the authors will turn her character around; and of course the others' too like sousuke's weird relationship with theater/acting. This manga illustrated the difficulties that youngsters usually encounter in high school. As Mitsumi learns that the social life at Tsubame High is extremely dissimilar from her junior high school, we can see her floundering from her first day. She struggles to understand others, misses social cues, and strives to reconcile her dreams with reality. Skip and Loafer has a convenient plot and a straightforward premise. The story is practically banal in its core, yet it is told in a way that everyone can relate to. Although Mitsumi's narrative will be all too familiar to everyone who had the feeling square peg in round hole in high school, witnessing her rise to the occasion is nonetheless motivating. Mitsumi is determined to make her school festival a success, but things don’t go quite as planned. Skip and Loafer Volume 5
