Pictures of topless women with their commentary about their breasts, showing what real breasts look like on real women with voice and humanity as priority (as opposed to air-brushing, underwires or uplifts). This book goes some way to answering some of those questions, and also highlights women's positive and negative impressions of themselves, attitudes of others, and the role breasts play in British culture - impressions that interestingly, often conflict with some of the other contributors.

A hundred women have bared their breasts and their souls as part of a project to further understanding of how women really feel about their breasts, and how they really look.women bravely share un-airbrushed photographs of their breasts alongside honest, courageous, powerful and humorous stories about their breasts and their lives. The book has several similarities to the online '007 breast' site, which has been running for a number of years, and likewise presents un-retouched photos of women's beasts along with text commentary; this book though, provides a more professional presentation of that format, both in terms of the photography, and structured interviews. I also learnt more about the power of other woman's perceptions on women's decisions about how they might dress and behave, and a closer view on being in a relationship with a man, from a woman's point of view. By turning my lens on physical taboos, I catalyse a ground-breaking conversation into social taboos and offer a deeply personal perspective on our most private, painful and pleasurable stories. Womanhood departs from the 'ideal vagina' and presents the gentle un-airbrushed truth, allowing us to understand and celebrate our diversity.

It celebrates the diversity of women’s bodies, and refocuses us to the stories that our bodies can tell and the value they hold, rather than the various ways they can be judged. das Buch 'Bare Reality' ist ein wunderbares Werk aus fotografischer Sicht und vor allem von Inhalt her. They talk about their boobs but really, they are just an extension of these wonderful, warm and funny individuals. I got led to this book after reading The Guardian's excerpts from Laura Dodsworth's upcoming book Manhood. I have always been fascinated by the dichotomy between women’s personal lives and how they are depicted by the media; between how we feel about breasts privately and how they are presented for public consumption. We meet, young, old, deformed, trans and without a doubt 100 of the most beautiful women I have read about.

From smooth Barbie dolls to internet porn, girls and women grow up with a very narrow view of what they should look like, even though in reality there is an enormous range. I think the time has never been better to hear how women really feel about their breasts, and to see how they really look. I guess also that the nature of a project like this relies on volunteers with an interest in the subject, so may not get a full cross-section of women.Airbrushed breasts, belonging to models and actresses, not only create an unflattering comparison but present an unobtainable ideal. I love how you learn each woman's story through her breasts her development, her response to the culture around her, illness, her sexuality, her children. We see images of breasts everywhere in the media and yet “real” breasts are taboo, hidden away beneath clothes and bras.
