Please use the Video clips on the PowerPoint to carry out the fitness activities 9:00am – 9:30am – Have fun! The children’s learning in Understanding the world has been broken down into half termly topics. This half term our topic is ‘Festivals and Celebrations’ Online Safety Following on from the internet safety day, here are some activities you can get your child to do, to help promote online safety. From Wednesday 6th January, your child will be given new Bug Club books every fortnight. Please encourage your child to read the books and complete the comprehension questions. The resources in this collection can be a big help for understanding norms like birthday parties, decorations, and invitations as you teach a birthday topic. EYFS children can learn about these traditions in a whole host of ways. You can decorate with banners for a fun visual difference in your learning environment. You can get children involved in making decorations! Having them Colour in Their Own Balloons for example is great fine motor skill practice, and they get to make a decoration that you can use in a beautiful display. How can I teach a birthday topic at EYFS?

You can also make a birthday display board for your space! Use some Months of the Year on Birthday Presents to split it into months and show when each child in your EYFS group has a birthday. Then they can see their own, and understand that others have birthdays where they get to have a special day too! It's a lovely way to teach about sharing and celebrating everyone equally. We will upload a PowerPoint which will cover an aspect of the topic and their will be tasks for the children to complete. The PowerPoint will be changed every week, and your child’s class teacher will talk through the PowerPoint during the class zoom session. Read the story aloud, pausing sometimes to talk about what is happening and what children think might happen next. Talk about the story Talk about how children think Kipper felt when his friends didn’t arrive. Why do children think his friends come on the wrong day? Kipper gets in a muddle with ‘yesterday’, ‘today’ and ‘tomorrow’. Use the template and make a ‘yesterday’, ‘today’ and ‘tomorrow’ chart. Your child can write what they did or plan to do in each section: Yesterday I… today I ….tomorrow I … Print off copies of the invitation template, fold them in half and your child can fill them in with your help or on their own. They can draw and colour a picture on the front for each guest as well before delivering their invitations. You can also make the fold it yourself invitation. Make a cakeYour child can tell you the story in their own words using the pictures to help them. Watch the story Kipper tries to spell all the words in his invitations and gets lots of them right or nearly right. You may want to talk abouthow important it is to have a go even when you are not sure how to spell every word. Tell the story Learning about birthdays and important celebrations around the world is a part of children's ‘Understanding the World’ early learning goal. There are loads of fun ways to teach a birthday topic in EYFS. Having a celebration when one of your children has a birthday is a great way to make them feel valued as part of your group. Plus, every child can have fun, get involved, and learn a little more about this important celebration. Looking for nursery birthday ideas to celebrate your little stars’ special days? Or, are you on the search for resources to teach your kiddos about the importance of celebrating birthdays? Dive into our wealth of birthday resources and decorate your learning environment to get your little ones involved in some fun birthday activities! Have some fun together, and take some time to decorate your classroom and make the day feel exciting. Children can choose a few toys to invite to a ‘birthday tea’ and perhaps wrap up some boxes for presents as well. Whose party will it be? Children might like to choose one toy to be the guest of honour. Make party invitations

Why not give them a special Birthday Note as well, to wish them a happy birthday and let them know how glad you are to have them in your group? Then, you could make some Birthday Hats , and get your class to make and sign their own Birthday Cards to give to the birthday star. If you've got children who have birthdays on a weekend or during a holiday, it's lovely to have a celebration for them, too. Try dedicating a day before you break up, or the last day of the week, to give them the same treatment and make sure they don't feel left out. English This week’s key text is Kipper’s Birthday, please read the story with your child before completing the activities.
