Description

And that is what makes Atlas Obscura such a majestic unique thing that it successfully made the very hard jump from blog to book.

I guarantee it will be much more fulfilling than merely walking like well-behaved sheep along well-manicured routes led by well-spoken tour guides. Thuras and Foer met in 2007, and soon discussed ideas for a different kind of atlas, featuring places not commonly found in guidebooks. It is accepted by you that Daunt Books has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. It covers all the continents and is full of information on cool things (I will certainly knock out all the US sites). You are encouraged to emerge from the pages with eyes wide open to the possibility of discovering this fascination around you. Authors Joshua Foer, Dylan Thuras, and Ella Morton set out to create a catalog of all the places, people, and things that inspire wonder. Since this is a children’s book, I can’t see children using this to plan a trip unless they live close to the destination that they chose.

It is not even focused on pictures, photography in the book and the site is very light, it’s not that kinda travel blog, one to five modest-res pictures will suffice, and you can imagine the rest. Mind-boggling events, like the Baby-Jumping Festival in Spainand no, its not the babies doing the jumping, but masked men dressed as devils who vault over rows of squirming infants. It's not a complete list, of course—even leaving aside the physical limitations of the printed page, not to mention the subjective nature of what counts as obscure—but editors Joshua Foer, Ella Morton and Dylan Thuras have made sure it's a comprehensive one. is another wunderkammer—this one focused on real medical oddities—that will leave you, as they say, "disturbingly informed. And with its compelling descriptions, hundreds of photographs, surprising charts, maps for every region of the world, it is a book to enter anywhere, and will be as appealing to the armchair traveller as the die-hard adventurer.

A very cool book that leads the reader through 47 different countries, linked by interesting/weird sites. It's the kind of book that makes you want to pack in your workaday life and head out to places you'd never have dreamed of going, to see things you could not even have imagined.

I think that it might be rather frustrating as the descriptions make you want to pack and just go there but reality being a beast and such, most of us have to resign ourselves to dreams of going there but - well, back to the illustrations. My only other complaint about this book is I wish real life pictures were used for at least some of the locations instea Daraufhin folgt der Reiseplan oder auch die Inhaltsangabe, so kann man, wenn man möchte auch einzelne Länder überspringen und behält einen guten Überblick.

Atlas Obscura, і шукатиму не тільки звичні туристичні пункти, які потрібно відвідати, а й щось екзотичне. Can't fault any part of the transaction so big thanks to the Seller for a smooth and pleasant transaction. The Atlas Obscura Explorer’s Guide for the World’s Most Adventurous Kid is an amazing adventure story…even for adults. covering all the continent's with several colour illustrations this book deserves at least an extra half star as the physical copy is gorgeous but I read the ebook. This is a book to read if you are a kid, aimed at ages 8-12, but also a book to read if you forgot or refused to grow up.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Workman Publishing Company for the opportunity to read this book.

A great book full of the more interesting places to see and that can be explored at your own pace without hordes of tourists getting in your way. Among them: the Glowing Termite Mounds of Emas Brazil, the secretive FBI Spy House in Washington DC, the spooky Pirate Cemetery in Madagascar, and in Whitehorse, Canada, the The World’s Largest Weathervane. Dies hat mir gefallen, denn so bekommt man gleich einen Bezug, wie groß das Land im Vergleich zu anderen ist und wo auf der Welt es liegt. Aside from the dumb relativism ("You can travel halfway around the globe to see an incredible sight, then discover that there's something just like in your own neighborhood.
