The 1st book in the series, Harrison isn't that happy to go on a train adventure with his Uncle Nat. Author Guy Bass introduces SCRAP, about one robot who tried to protect the humans on his planet against an army of robots. Now the humans need his...

Like Murder on the Orient Express but better . . . a terrific read!’ – Frank Cottrell Boyce, author of Millions. The winners of The Farshore Reading for Pleasure Teacher Awards 2023, highlighting the work schools are doing to encourage a love of reading, have... The other passengers are a wonderfully funny mix of all-too-recognisable stereotypes (in the best possible way!) From rich and pompous to famous and arrogant to self-made and brash, they’re not an immediately likeable bunch (save for a couple!) but they’re very engaging. Overall, if you couldn’t guess, I loved this! It’s fantastically written, with some wonderful, lively descriptions and a great mixture of humour, warmth, adventure and suspense. The illustrations have a lightness of touch and level of detail that bring it to life brilliantly.

There are many high profile and super wealthy persons in this train and the women wears expensive jwellery. And one by one the jwellery starts disappearing. The latest book in the railway detectives series is Sabotage on the Solar Express, with book six The Arctic Railway Assassin, set for release in October 2022. Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing -

They also help explain some of the more technical train ‘stuff’ allowing us to find out more and understand enough to follow parts of the plot that rely on the train and its workings without becoming bogged down. This is also true of the way the driver and fireman, Mohanjit and Joey, tell Hal about what they’re doing and how things work. This book has clearly been carefully researched and, although I didn’t think of myself as being remotely interested in trains, like Hal I couldn’t help but be interested and impressed as I found out more! I think it's actually 2.5 stars. I feel bad because others are rating it so highly but the reality is that I was a little disappointed. I had read so many good things about this book that I had to give it a go, and I wasn't disappointed! Way out in the furthest part of the known world, a tiny stronghold exists all on its own, cut off from the rest of human-kin by monsters that lurk beneath the Snow Sea.

Engage children with digital learning

I liked how his Uncle gave Hal the freedom to explore and enjoy the train on his own without hovering over him. That freedom gave Hal the confidence to interact with a lot of different people. Btw. I knew what was up with the Red Herring from the outset, and with who. I knew who had done it from almost the beginning and I knew the diamond was being stolen as that scene was playing out. I get it's a kids book and I'm unnaturally canny with a mystery, but I read other kids mysteries that don't project the whole entire solution like this. Yes, Nat was one of my favourite things about the book and one of my favourite recent adult characters. M. G. Leonard is a writer of books, poems and screenplays. She has a first-class honours degree in English literature and an MA in Shakespeare Studies from Kings College London. She works as a freelance Digital Media Producer for clients such as the National Theatre, and Harry Potter West End, and previously worked as a Senior Digital Producer at the National Theatre, the Royal Opera House and Shakespeare’s Globe. She spent her early career in the music industry running Setanta Records, an independent record label, and managing bands, most notably The Divine Comedy. After leaving the music industry, she trained as an actor, dabbling in directing and producing as well as performing, before deciding to write her stories down. Maya lives in Brighton with her husband and two sons. Alex kan ook geweldig tekenen. Zo te zien loopt er dus genoeg creatief bloed door de familie. Want zijn oom is een beroemde schrijver.

Adventures on Trains is a fantastic middle-grade mystery series, from bestselling authors M.G. Leonard and Sam Sedgman, with beautiful illustrations by Elisa Paganelli. Even though the mystery was predictable, I absolutely enjoyed how the two kids solved the robbery. The two kids are so pure and precious, and also incredibly smart and brave. The friendship between Harrison and Lenny was so genuine and real, I felt such warmth in my heart by seeing how much the two would do for one another. When Hal reluctantly accompanies his Uncle Nat on the final journey of the Highland Falcon, an iconic royal steam train, he is anticipating a dull, uneventful trip - but Lenny, the train driver’s daughter, is a huge rail enthusiast and has stowed away, determined not to miss the experience of a lifetime. The two new friends have great fun exploring the train and observing the passengers, including an eccentric Countess with her five boisterous dogs, a glamorous film star and guests of honour, the royal prince and his wife. This had distinct Orient Express vibes, which made me love it all the more. It feels very different for a children's book in that we get a lot of details about the working of steam trains and the journey itself, mixed in with this really interesting mystery. It all unfolds in a really satisfying way. I also really enjoyed exploring the Scottish countryside and getting a glimpse of Balmoral - even if it's very fleeting.
