I don’t really have a good place to put it – particularly if it’s going to be louder than the DS918+ (and I’m assuming most of the noise would come from using Seagate 20 TB Iron Wolf Pros, which are 7200 RPM and much denser compared to my four WD Red 12 TB drives, which are 5400 RPM) The DS220+ is well designed too. You've got a front panel that covers the drive bays, resulting in a cleaner look. The sides and top are clear also. On the rear, you'll find the two USD 3.0 ports, as well as two 1Gb LAN ports. It would have been nice to see 2.5Gb ports here, but being able to link the two 1Gb ports up does help. What we said in our Review – The QNAP TS-451D2 is an interesting solution to add to the range at the tail end of 2020 for the company, sandwiched in between the launch of newer business devices and likely one of the last units in the QNAP D series. The brand has long since shaken off the reputation of being a hardware provider and light software provider, becoming something much, much even. With a huge number of first-party applications in the QNAP QuTS library (many of which are genuinely unique) as well as releasing an affordable 4-Bay NAS solution that has aimed itself at the new NAS buyer, or the NAS user who wants to spend a little now but can expand greatly later. Choosing the right NAS for your needs can be a daunting task with the vast choice that is available. Before purchasing a new NAS, ask yourself the following questions to ensure you choose one that is suitable for your needs: The Synology DiskStation Manager is an excellent operating system and is what you’ll find on all branded enclosures. It truly shines on the DS220+. The two 1Gb LAN ports can be linked together for additional network bandwidth too.

CPU and RAM: We prefer a multicore Intel Celeron or AMD Ryzen processor. We looked for 2 GB of RAM at minimum. On paper, the Synology DiskStation DS120j doesn’t have much going for it as a NAS enclosure, so why would I recommend anyone buy it? It’s the most affordable Synology server, making it an ideal choice for parents looking to treat their student or for anyone else wanting to try out NAS. Many thx if someone far more intelligent then me , possible a bit younger while containing much more knowledge then me could help me. CPU: Realtek RTD1296 | Drive bays: 2 | RAM: 512MB DDR4 | Features: 1x 1Gb LAN, 2x USB 3.0, upgradable RAMThe 2GB of DDR4 RAM can be expanded to 6GB should you require more system memory, but the initial amount should be more than enough to start with. Then there are the four drive bays, which can allow for up to 72TB. I think it would be fair to say that, when it comes to users who are making the jump professionally from Cloud to their own private server, the 4-Bay NAS market is often their first choice! Aside from the obvious benefits in capacity (NAS hard drives are now available at 22TB and 24TB is just around the corner) and redundancy (i.e safety nets), 4 disk servers tend to be where NAS brands introduce better hardware internally and externally. As NAS technology has improved year on year, the standard of the average prosumer/small-business 4-Bay NAS has increased quite substantially – all the while with the price point largely remaining the same at each tier (give or take a few %). So, today I want to discuss the very best 4-Bay NAS drives that you can buy right now at the end of 2022 and into 2023. I have reviewed hundreds of NAS devices in the last few years, and I can comfortably say that 2022/2023 has easily been the most competitive. We have seen the evolution of M.2 NVMe SSD use in these systems extending to caching and storage across all NAS brands, the continued growth of 2.5GbE, a new generation of processors arrive that open the doors to larger bandwidth internally and all the while, the software that all these devices arrive with become incredibly diverse and capable! So, let’s get down to it, what are the best 4-Bay NAS drives of 2022 and 2023? Let’s go. What Have All the Best 4-Bay NAS Drives Have in Common?

If you want a 4 bay NAS to simply plugin and start using, the Buffalo TeraStation is a good option, but you may find purchasing a diskless NAS and then buying the hard drives separately offers better value for money and potentially better performance.

Btrfs: advanced file system for data protection

Bays, 2x PCIe Gen 3×1 M.2 NVMe 2280, Intel Celeron N5105 CPU, 4-16GB Memory, 2x 2.5Gbe Port, 1x PCIe Gen 3×2 Slot, 1 HDMI 2.0 4K 6-FPS, 3-5yr Warranty Other manufacturers are more likely to sell their NAS devices without any included hard drives, but some will offer included disks that are pre-configured for the convenience of you, the buyer.

I want to keep away from a four bay Nas. I have the idea that it is not good for me in the future. Want to start with 2 x 12 Tb. And then in the future upgrade to another 2 x 12 Tb. Most devices will have a couple of USB ports allowing you to connect a printer or external storage device, for example. This allows you to essentially make these devices available on your home network through the NAS itself. Support for Latest Large Capacity Hard Drives**: Modern NAS systems should support up to 20TB NAS hard drives, such as Seagate Ironwolf 22TB and WD Red 22TB. The DS418 will support a maximum of 48TB of data (12TB hard drive x 4) which is an immense amount of storage, even for those with the biggest storage demands. This enclosure also supports up to 8GB of RAM, compared to the 6GB in the DS420+. Then you have full enclosure support (via the eSATA port), allowing you to throw in the Synology DX517 into the mix and add a further nine drives. Other than these improvements, the two NAS are pretty much identical in size and design. For some other prospective user of similar set-up I rather recommend going for one port 10 Gb/s card (2 ports is fitted with fun which is very noisy) and some other fan-less Thunderbolt adapter (QNAP’s 10 Gb has a fan – this one a surprise for me – which is unpleasantly high-pitched. That being said, this NAS by QNAP does deliver strong performance for the price and is good value for money, in my opinion. Bays, 2x Gen 3 x2 M.2 NVMe 2280, Intel Pentium Gold G7400 2-core/4-thread 3.7 GHz CPU, Intel Embedded UHD Graphics 710, 8-128GB DDR4 Memory, 2x 2.5Gbe Port, PCIe Gen 4 x16 + PCIe Gen 3 x2, USB 10G, HDMI 2.0B, 3-5yr Warranty
