I have had a miscarriage (7+ years ago) and since then I’ve had four kids, including twins. I was okay reading this book now. I think she handled writing that part pretty well. But I don’t think I would have wanted to read this book if that pain and grief was still fresh. Especially with the short dream sequence that is described after her miscarriage. I don’t think that would have sat well with me. If you can handle the swearing, I would recommend this book. It’s a great read if you can get past that bit. Another couple random thoughts— I don’t think she really wrapped up Benji’s part in all of it very well, unless I’m remembering wrong. I would have liked to know more of his deal. And was Kennedy’s pregnancy and miscarriage real or faked?

I’m not sure if the ending is necessarily ‘likable’ but it kinda fit. It’s just not really a ‘feel good’ ending and is a little open. So if you don’t like that kind of ending, it may frustrate you. Unless she plans to do a sequel? Maybe… This is where things get interesting. She starts to learn about a whole other life that her sister lead, and none of it is good. It was an addictive read and I felt for Devan. Life was not being kind to her and things just kept getting worse. There is profanity. I did notice it was minimal and appeared culturally correct (given my studies and readings). But when Deven sees the picture of the body she is certain that it’s not her sister. It can’t be. The body doesn’t reflect her cosmetic surgeries and her sister would never have done drugs. Something is amiss.

Behind Her Lives

So what are all of these twisted and creepy characters actually like in real life? Here’s a deep dive into the real lives of the cast of Behind Her Eyes on Netflix. Eve Hewson – Adele Ferguson Lust, jealousy, betrayal, and desperation to survive drive this dramatic tale that will appeal to fans of contemporary multicultural romance authors De’Nesha Diamond, Victoria Christopher Murray, and Shelly Ellis.” Deven thinks she's at the morgue to identify her sisters body, but it turns out not to be her. But where is Kennedy then, if this dead girl is not her. As she investigates her sister's disappearance she slowly starts to realize that maybe she doesn't know her as well as she thought she did. There's the added fact that they're step-siblings, with the same mom and different father's, that causes some drama.

Thank you NetGalley and Tantor Audio for accepting my request to audibly read and review Behind Her Lives. Opening the door to the police before 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning can never lead to anything good, a truism confirmed to Deven Reyonlds when she’s told that her younger sister, Kennedy, is dead by suicide and she’s needed to identify the body. But when shown a picture of the women found in Kennedy’s apartment, Deven is relieved to announce that the person is not her sister. The ME, the police, even her sometimes-boyfriend Justin think she is in the denial stage of grief, but Deven knows she’s right. That doesn’t explain though why the woman was found in Kennedy’s apartment or why Deven can’t locate Kennedy.Later, in London, Rob-as-Adele’s fixation on beauty and appearances see him dressing almost entirely in white (the colour of the rehab uniform in which he first met, and idolised, Adele) and spending his life maintaining her athletic body and magazine-spread house. This was my first book by Briana Cole but definitely not the last I’m so glad I requested this audiobook and was able to read it. Though I thought it strange that Deven’s character admitted that she intentionally didn’t date outside her race, I did appreciate that the author didn’t try to do too much with the love story part of the book. That was not central to the plot and considering all the things Deven was dealing with, I think it’s more realistic to plot the relationship the way Cole did. Describing the show to Heart.co.uk ahead of its release, Eve Hewson - who plays Adele - said: "The show is a psychological thriller, and it's a love triangle about a single mother named Louise who starts an affair with her boss while simultaneously sparking up a friendship with his wife."

Secrets, suspense, and a missing sister—who may not want to be found—are at the center of Brianna Cole’s latest enthralling multicultural drama. Will appeal to fans of psychological suspense, gritty drama, and readers of De’Nesha Diamond, Kiki Swinson, Saundra, Wahida Clark, Ashley & JaQuavis, Victoria Christopher Murray, and Shelly Ellis. I like books that deal with possible mistaken identities. It keeps you guessing even when you think you know what’s going on. We have the before and present timeline, and childhood diary entries, that keep the story flowing along nicely. I felt invested and wanted to know what was up with Kennedy. I wasn't overly in love with Deven, or many of the characters, but the epilogue was great! From bestselling author Briana Cole, an enthrallingly suspenseful new story of secrets, sibling rivalry, and a woman searching for a missing sister who may not want to be found. For fans of multicultural psychological thrillers and edgy dramas by Shanora Williams, Kiki Swinson, Saundra, Wahida Clark, Ashley & JaQuavis, Victoria Christopher Murray, and Shelly Ellis. The police think she’s in denial and aren’t treating it as anything other than a routine suicide, so Deven is on her own to find her sister and find out what really happened. While Devan's world is turned upside down, she also learns more about herself and that she is stronger than she realizes. We follow Deven on her investigation to neighborhoods she never thought she’d go to, and even a visit to prison. We also follow her on a journey through grief, having recently lost her father to cancer, essentially her mother who has dementia, her twins that she miscarried, and now possibly her sister. I felt so close to this not the missing sister concept but the losing a loved one. It was so hard to listen the end of the book for me I cried so much. You never realize how important a person to you until you lose it… Deven is called to the morgue to identify the body of a woman found dead in her apartment, apparently by drug overdose. They say it is her (half) sister, Kennedy. Rob’s obsession with wealth blinkers him to reality. He myopically sees Adele and David’s life only as a flawless fairy tale, callously dismissing Adele’s loneliness and the traumatic deaths of her parents. When Adele first teaches him the ability to quell his nightmares and control his dreams – a gift for which he is supremely ungrateful – Rob conjures up a manor house, a cravat and a butler. Upon his arrival at Adele’s estate, he immediately goes into an exaggerated role play as the lord of the manor.Wealth, status and being loved are his obsessions.
