With formulas that are hypoallergenic and gentle on sensitive skin, our tinted mineral sunscreen can also be used by those with conditions such as rosacea, without the fear of uncomfortable irritation. Once a product passes the testing after the 3-year period, an expiration date is no longer printed on subsequent production of this product. This product has completed the 3-year FDA stability testing and is no longer required to have an expiration date as the product is found to be extremely stable. Pros: Goes on smooth, feels very moisturizing on initial application, purely mineral, cheaper per oz. EltaMD’s cult-favorite SPF is pretty much the gold standard when it comes to the best sunscreen for acne-prone skin. (It’s also one of Hailey Bieber’s go-tos). “For acne-prone skin, my favorite product is Elta MD’s UV Clear SPF 46. It is specifically formulated for oily, acne-prone skin and is super lightweight, and therefore does not clog pores,” says Bradley Glodny, MD, board-certified dermatologist and owner of Park Ave. Derm in New York City. “It also has a natural-appearing tint, which can help to camouflage acne and redness in additional to niacinamide to help combat inflammation.”

With many people using active skin care ingredients, such as retinoids and exfoliating acids to keep skin healthy and youthful looking, skin tends to be more sensitive, making daily sunscreen application a must,” says board certified dermatologist and medical advisor for docent, Dr. Farhaad Riyaz.

Effects like that are what I love to read for any skincare or makeup brand, so it’s nice to know that Colorescience, a company with great ingredients, awards, and certifications makes this happen for customers. But I guess the boatload of awards sort of hints at that, doesn’t it? Best for Combination Skin: BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 The Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Flex SPF 50 is currently winning the award of my absolute favorite sunscreen (it also wins for the longest product name ever in my routine). It's a mineral formula that offers subtle, tinted coverage while maintaining a lightweight feel. Ready to get things rolling? This Colorescience review is way ahead of you. Next up, you’ll find the company’s highlights to get a feel for what’s in store. Highlights

My goal for the year has been to incorporate sunscreen into my daily routine to combat redness and hyperpigmentation. In my search for the perfect tinted mineral sunscreen, I decided to try one from EltaMD (photo on left) and one from Colorescience (photo on right). Both photos taken after about 10 hours of wear (sorry - some rubbing off where the mask touched). Hoping my review will help someone else. To make sure you’re receiving the level of protection you need to prevent sun damage, lower your risk of skin cancer, and keep your skin looking youthful, make sure you apply your sunscreen correctly. When using tinted mineral sunscreen, you should: Chemical sunscreens, on the other hand, actually sink into skin, where the active ingredients absorb UV rays and convert them into less-harmful components. “Chemical sunscreens are often very lightweight and go on evenly and smoothly on skin,” says Nazarian. “They’re great for people who are acne-prone, or those who are looking for a sunscreen to apply easily over a large surface area.”For oily and/or acne-prone skin, choose noncomedogenic, oil-free, fragrance-free, and lightweight sunscreens,” Blair Murphy-Rose, MD, FAAD, board-certified cosmetic and medical dermatologist at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York, tells Glamour. Additionally, the ideal sunscreen for acne-prone and oily skin will have acne-fighting and anti-inflammatory ingredients, like lactic acid and niacinamide, Murphy-Rose adds.

Would love to hear about other people’s thoughts on these if you’ve tried them, or other tinted mineral sunscreens you’d recommend (that would work on fair skin, with minimal oxidization)! These high-performing SPF powders offer additional sun protection, absorb excess oil, and even your complexion without feeling heavy. “Powder sunscreens are beneficial to those who wear makeup in the summer but don’t want the greasy feeling of a lotion,” says Ellen Marmur M.D., a New York City-based dermatologist and founder of Marmur Metamorphosis Skincare. SPF ingredients work two different ways: Chemical sunscreens absorb UVA and UVB rays to prevent damage, while mineral sunscreens (which are great for sensitive skin ) sit on top of the dermis to physically prevent rays from hitting the outermost layer of our skin, says Dr. Shamban. You can find tinted sunscreens with both kinds of coverage, and these pigmented formulas are a savvy option for steamy days. Although they won’t provide as much color or coverage as a face tanner would, they will still even out your tone and provide great sun protection. Tinted vs. Untinted Sunscreens Total Protection™ Sheer Matte SPF 30 Sunscreen Brush provides Broad Spectrum SPF030 (UVB protection) and PA+++ (UVA protection).
