So these were two storylines. There is a third which is introduced as the beginning. A young pregnant woman, Catherine, awakes to find a note with a knife stating “I could have killed you”. She has no idea where it came from and she makes a “snap” decision not to tell her husband about this which ends up almost costing her everything!

The abalone was a turbulent storm cloud, captured and tamed by the smooth, warm handle that fitted his palm like magic. He touched his thumb to the diamond stud and the knife seemed to open itself! Seemed to know that he wanted it open, and obliged before he’d exerted any noticeable pressure. No hesitation. No notches. No friction. The blade sprang open like a living thing, alert to his every wish. Serrated on one edge, curved on the other to a cruel point. This ingenious and darkly comic mystery is an absolute delight and Felix is one of the most loveable fugitives ever created.' Yeah- yeah.... I know how did they not get caught by social services- and support themselves to boot? Lea, Richard (18 July 2014). "Theakstons Old Peculier crime novel of the year taken by Belinda Bauer". The Guardian . Retrieved 11 June 2016.

Belinda Bauer (born 1962) is a British writer of crime novels. She grew up in England and South Africa, [1] but later moved to Wales, where she worked as a court reporter in Cardiff; the country is often used as a setting in her work. [2] Unique, haunting…and bonkers. If I had to describe this book in a nutshell, that’s what comes to mind. And just so you know, I’m a big fan of bonkers. We have the new neighbour next door making an appearance. I loved how I didn’t like her, then I did. A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. We meet pregnant Catherine who’s life was threatened while her husband Adam was away. Of course she doesn’t tell Adam! ( crazy)... Eileen’s almost complete absence from the novel accentuates her loss and her children’s need to a degree that makes their subsequent moods and attitudes completely understandable, and I loved the way the story gradually came together. I can’t begin to describe how much I love Belinda Bauer’s work. Every book is better than the last and this one was truly extraordinary. While on the surface a psychological thriller, it really is so much more. Bauer writes her characters with such nuanced perfection that the reader experiences numerous reactions to them all. I don’t want to give any spoilers away but I will be recommending this book to everyone, whether they like thrillers or not.” —Linda Quinn, Fairfield Public Library Mommy must have ‘snapped’ a brain-artery... she goes searching for help....but leaves the kids behind. It’s hard to understand how the Man Booker judges could have deemed Snap to be of sufficient depth or imagination to merit its inclusion.
