Description

Considering we are big fans of potatoes and have been for generations now, it was about time that someone invented the Irish crisp – something different from the others that existed around the world. Tayto is behind the Perri brand, which they established in 1986, and the Hunky Dorys, which was the crinkle cut, chunky crisp pioneered in 1993. Salt & Vinegar Flavour Potato Crisps: Potatoes, Vegetable Oils: Rapeseed Oil, Sunflower Oil, Salt & Vinegar Flavour (Flavourings, Cornflour, Flavour Enhancer: Monosodium Glutamate; Salt, Potassium Chloride, Acid: Citric Acid) The crisp brand has come a long way. The crisps were first sold out of a single delivery van before a deal involving the Findlater family’s stores and distribution network unleashed them throughout Ireland. Now they are shipped all over the world to ease pain of being away from home for those who live outside Ireland. Tandragee Tayto

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

He pioneered the flavoured crisp, and by the age of 31, he was on his way to making a global impact. We have his son to thank for the name Tayto. It is now known to many worldwide, even becoming the Irish slang for the word crisps of any kind. Joe Murphy used this word as this is how his small son pronounced the word potato. Spring Onion Flavour Potato Crisps: Potatoes, Vegetable Oils: Rapeseed Oil, Sunflower Oil, Spring Onion Flavour (Whey Permeate ( Milk), Salt, Onion Powder, Flavour Enhancer: Monosodium Glutamate; Potassium Chloride, Yeast Powder, Sugar, Acid: Malic Acid; Flavourings, Garlic Powder, Sweetener: Saccharin ( Milk)) Tayto is Ireland’s most popular crisp brand. It produced the first flavoured potato crisps in the world, and was founded in County Meath in the 1950s.If you still have some outstanding questions about the best Irish crisps we all know from childhood, that’s no problem. We have you covered, as here we have put together some of the most commonly asked questions about this topic. What is the most popular crisp in Ireland? In its home country, 500 bags of Tayto are sold every minute. Inspired by the Irish rural metonym for crisps Tayto (Northern Ireland) was formed in 1956 by the Hutchinson family and licensed the name and recipes from Tayto Crisps formed two years prior in the Republic of Ireland. The two companies operate entirely separately but have a similar range of products. Tasting notes: smoky, bacon, moreish 3. Mature Irish Cheddar Cheese and Spring Onion (Tayto Bistro) How many people in the world know that this Irish crisp brand actually invented flavoured crisps? Well, it’s true, and it certainly gives us Irish bragging rights when the topic arises.

Cheese & Onion Flavour Potato Crisps: Potatoes, Vegetable Oils: Rapeseed Oil, Sunflower Oil, Cheese and Onion Flavour (Onion Powder, Yeast Powder, Cheese Powder ( Milk), Flavour Enhancer: Monosodium Glutamate; Wheat Flour ( Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin), Salt) Crisps were invented in England before Tayto, but these were without seasoning. An Irishman by the name of Joe ‘Spud’ Murphy came up with the idea of the seasoned or flavoured crisp. Credit: Facebook / @MrTayto Tayto is a name almost synonymous with the Irish culture. As Ireland’s leading crisp company, Tayto boasts the same prestige as Barry’s Tea, Kerrygold Butter or Ballymaloe Relish. And, all we can say is that we are proud to call Mr Tayto (the potato mascot of the brand) Irish, too.

The company is entirely separate from Tayto in the Republic of Ireland which has different product ranges; Tayto in the Republic of Ireland owns the name and mascot, and Tayto in Northern Ireland uses both under a licensing agreement. The Northern Irish Tayto is widely sold in both Northern Ireland and Great Britain, while the Republic of Ireland brand is sold in the Republic.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special. They are also the makers of our favourites such as King, Hula Hoops, KP Nuts, Rancheros, Skips, and Meanies.Ireland’s only wooden rollercoaster, an exotic zoo and a “Native American village.” In the Irish General Election of 2007, Tayto crisps ran Mr Tayto as a fake candidate, resulting in a number of spoiled papers in the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency when people actually voted for their mascot. This amusement park offers over 100 attractions, a zoo, and many rides that kids and kids at heart love, making it one of the best theme parks and waterparks in Ireland. In Ireland, on the other hand, they can be found absolutely anywhere and everywhere from pubs to rural corner shops. These crisps have been with us for generations now. Popular local crisps Banshee Bones are also made by Tayto. Their shapes are reflective of bones, giving it a unique appearance and living true to the Banshee omen.
