Liam_Doolan That doesn't surprise me, none of the New 3DS models seem as sturdy as the old 3DS. I like the design of the N3DS but the old system beats it easily for sturdiness of build. The extensive library of 3DS hits, including the handful of New Nintendo 3DS XL exclusives (most notably, Xenoblade Chronicles 3Dand The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth), can be played on the New Nintendo 2DS XL without a hitch. Byford, Sam (September 17, 2020). "Nintendo has discontinued the 3DS". The Verge. Archived from the original on September 17, 2020 . Retrieved September 21, 2021. As far as battery life goes, expect it to be in the same six- or seven-hour ballpark as the New 3DS XL. You’re unlikely to be playing your New 2DS XL for that long in a single sitting, though, so it should easily last you a weekend of occasional play. New Nintendo 2DS XL review: Game compatibility Bottom Line: Especially at the right price, the 2DS is a perfect console for younger gamers with its durable design. For those who won't miss the added features, the Nintendo 2DS is the perfect little console to get into the 3DS' (and DS') library of games. The new design not only makes the console more durable by removing the need for hinges, but its button placement also makes it easier to focus on the top screen while following the action. However, Nintendo has made a couple of rather perplexing changes. The 2DS XL’s stylus is shorter and fatter, a change presumably made to make it more comfortable for children to use, but any adults buying the New 2DS XL will find themselves battling hand cramp after a while. A new model of the 2DS, titled the New Nintendo 2DS XL (branded as New Nintendo 2DS LL [b] in Japan), was released in Japan and Korea on July 13, 2017, [23] Australia and New Zealand on July 15, 2017, [24] and in North America and Europe on July 28, 2017. [25] This is a Japanese console that has been converted to US firmware, it functions exactly the same as a US console. This comment comes off as quite angry but it isn't supposed to be. It's a somewhat reasonable comment to have been made, but I do kind of question the logic. For those after a single-screen handheld that can truly play AAA games, head to our Nintendo Switch review. What put me off the original 2DS was solely the inability to fold it... the fact that they haven't just fixed that issue, but they've also given it various other upgrades is just great. Kohler, Chris (August 28, 2013). "Nintendo's Weird New 2DS Proves It: Price Is Always the Problem". Wired. Condé Nast Digital.

With the Switch, users have access to a beautiful Nintendo handheld console that has detachable controllers built-in and a stunning HD display. Gamers are also able to play honest-to-goodness Nintendo games on their iOS and Android devices, which means we'd forgive you for thinking there's no space for the 2DS and 3DS anymore. The main controls are largely in the same place as the New 3DS XL. A round analog control pad and cross-shaped direction pad sit to the left of the touch screen on the lower half, just above a Home button. An analog direction nub sits above A/B/X/Y face buttons, which in turn rest above small Start and Select buttons. L, R, ZL, and ZR shoulder buttons sit on the top edge of the bottom half of the device, while the power button and three indicator LEDs sit on the right side of the bottom edge of the system. A small slider on the left side of the bottom half of the device lets you adjust volume. New Nintendo 2DS XL plays all existing Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS games* in 2D, including New Nintendo 3DS titles such as Super Nintendo Virtual Console games.

3D is out, 2D is in

The chief difference here is that it’s not a distance-viewed Pikmin game as found on the GameCube and Wii U, instead it’s a side-scrolling adventure made for the smaller screen. Despite this shift in perspective, it’s as enjoyable as the series has ever been. I'll probably get one. It certainly looks nice and the texture and weight would make it good for any card-save games I'd want to play on a larger screen (like Xenoblade) once in a while.
