Description

The thin optical lens used in some of recent Fenix E-series flashlight models. Sitting behind this optics is the MATCH CA18-3X2 LED from Genesis Photonics (couldn't find much information about this LED except who manufacture it). The original Fenix E12 has possibly the weakest feature-set of any flashlight I’ve reviewed here to date. Today we look at the updated Fenix E12 V2.0. The form-factor has undergone a major overhaul, but has the rest of the light been brought up to speed? Fenix E12 V2.0

Below is an interactive runtime graph of several AA flashlights I tested. These are measured with AA Eneloop batteries. Even though some of the lights work with 14500 batteries, the numbers are solely for Eneloops. Fenixlight Limited was formed in 2001 by a group of enthusiastic young engineers intent on improving upon the lighting products then available. No problems here. Though I didn’t carry this light much I doubt durability would be an issue. Construction feels really solid, and it feels very nice in the hand. In fact it feels so good that I wish the clip was better so I could carry it more. comparing the High mode of Fenix E12 v2.0, 160 lumens to the High mode of Fenix E20 v2.0 350 lumens (image captured at 1/1000s shutter speed @ ISO-50). Mode Switching: Mode switching is accomplished by half-pressing the tail switch once the light is already on. The tail switch works very well for this. The light comes on at Low, then toggles to Medium, then High. Category 4: Form Factor

The tailswitch boot button is covered by 2 protruding lanyard hole design and the boot is recessed enough for tail-standing. I wish Fenix E20 v2.0 has the same design though... When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Low output is reached. To ensure normal use, the flashlight will not turn off automatically and will work till the battery runs out completely. When it comes to form-factor…well, that’s where the Fenix E12 V2.0 really shines. But it’s also this light’s biggest failure, so…

E12 V2.0 features all the hallmarks of Fenix quality including superbly engineered A6061 T6 aluminium construction, patented optically coated lens, bronze colour bezel ring, anti slip body and IP68 rated 2m waterproofing. This flashlight is a high-intensity lighting device capable of causing eye damage to the user or others. Avoid shining the flashlight directly into anyone's eyes.

Medium: 30 lumens. That is a very nice “in-between” setting, and about where I’d want a medium to be on this light. The usual disclaimer: I do not claim the above measured lumens as authoritative nor an indication of over/under-stating the number given by manufacturer. It's calibrated against some known light output (e.g. SureFire, Elzetta, etc.) so take it with a grain of salt and just as a relative reading. Here you can see the bezel, which has a rose color. Sorry to say that I’m unsure if this bezel is press-fit or screwed in – I can’t make it budge. Please take out the battery if the flashlight will not be used for a long time, or it may cause damage from electrolyte leakage or battery explosion. Light is fully stabilized! And it’s okay in Mid, you may expect it.But even in HIGH as well! In the latter case, this will require cooling, which is surprising in itself. I don’t remember any 2xAA model with thermal regulation. So in the presence of some kind of breeze or use in cold weather, you can expect an hour and a half or two (depending on the battery capacity) of a light that is quite practical in terms of brightness. The Fenix name means “a living bird, a perfect thing” and since producing their first product on 3rd of September 2001, Fenix have always strived to achieve perfection I am normally not a fan at all of the two-way clips but this one is very slim, and overall quite nice.

Today, I am going to review the Fenix E12 flashlight. This Fenix brand flashlight is the successor of the Fenix E11 flashlight. The E12 light is an excellent EDC flashlight with powerful illumination. It is durably made, and an additional light mode is added. Also, the design of the body at the end of the tail cap has been altered to make it different from the E11 LED flashlight. If you need a small, compact, and everyday carry flashlight, then buy Fenix E12. Read this Fenix E12 review to know more about this flashlight. Upgraded Fenix E12 Flashlight Review in 2023 Tail Stand: Yes, this light will tail stand. Not the most important feature, but I do appreciate the ability to provide diffuse lighting by standing a light on end and bouncing light off the ceiling. Maximum beam distance 88 meters, waterproof to 2 meters and impact resistant to drops from 1 meter. The only way to do a good clip is to screw it onto the body, or have it sit in-between the battery tube and tailcap with a metal ring. Clip-on clips don’t work. And two-way clips don’t work. Mode switching method 1: with E12 v2.0 turned-ON, tap the tail switch to cycle Low-Medium-High mode

Still, it wouldn’t hurt anything to have this light turn on in High, and it wouldn’t have cost Fenix anything extra. I don’t understand that decision. All that confusing nonsense is to say: this is a really, really small flashlight! The new size and shape really make me want to like it! The E12 V2.0 has a central beam angle of 12° combined with a spill beam angle of 85°, which offers a soft wide lighting area perfect for comfortable up close work. Equally it is capable of shining up to 68 metres on the highest setting should the distance be required, making the torch a superb companion for tradesmen and general every day use. Fenix products are popular among outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, campers, law enforcement personnel, and military professionals due to their rugged construction, powerful output, and advanced features. The company is known for using top-tier materials and cutting-edge technology to ensure their products meet high-performance standards.
