Apply MolluDab as described in steps 2 and 3 twice daily;it is best to do this in the morning and evening. Above all, don’t fret. In most cases, although they look unsightly, they do not indicate any particular health problem and treatments are available. Olsen JR, Piguet V, Gallacher J, Francis NA. Molluscum contagiosum and associations with atopic eczema in children: a retrospective longitudinal study in primary care.Br J Gen Pract . 2016;66(642):e53-8. doi:10.3399/bjgp15X688093. Journal But is most common in children up to the age of 14. In the UK, it is most common between the ages of one and four years, with at least one in 20 children affected at any one time. Children with eczema are particularly vulnerable, possibly because their skin barrier is disrupted (making it easier for the virus to take hold) and because eczema triggers scratching, which spreads the infection.

Experience with 170 children in an outpatient clinic setting in the northeastern United States.Pediatr Dermatol. 2015;32(3):353-7. doi:10.1111/pde.12504. PubMed Twice daily, use the spatula to apply a small quantity of MolluDabprecisely onto the molluscum bumps, and allow the solution to dry. MolluDab ® causes cells which are affected by the virus to dissolve and after 3-6 days of treatment 4 produces a defence reaction of the skin in the region affected by molluscum contagiosum. Be aware that some treatments available through the internet may not be effective and may even be harmful. Physical removal

Tariff Watch

Molluscum contagiosum is caused by a poxvirus, the molluscum contagiosum virus. There are at least 4 viral subtypes. Gradual removal of lesions may be achieved by oral therapy. This technique is often desirable for pediatric patients because it is generally less painful and may be performed by parents at home in a less threatening environment. Oral cimetidine has been used as an alternative treatment for small children who are either afraid of the pain associated with cryotherapy, curettage, and laser therapy or because the possibility of scarring is to be avoided. While cimetidine is safe, painless, and well tolerated, facial mollusca do not respond as well as lesions elsewhere on the body. Topical therapy My docs refused to do the prescription so we are currently paying for it, but I am so desperate I would actually pay anything. Mornings and evenings are very stressful with all 3 dc screaming while and after I put it on as it is so painful.

Goodness that sounds awful lewimorgan1, your poor little girl. My 3 dc have it in differing severity. One of my DS has it very badly, although thankfully they are all on his body, none on his face. There must be close to 300. My other DS's torso is completely covered and my DD just has a small patch on her bottom. We've been using molludab for about 3 weeks now and on second bottle (as you get such a tiny amount). I think it is working as the spots are scabbing but it is not stopping the spreading of the virus so they are getting more spots but it is taking time for the old ones to scab and heal. Imiquimod cream. (Prescribed occasionally by skin specialists, particularly in people who have problems with their immune system.)Please note that parcels weighing over 2kg may be sent via courier due to Royal Mail weight restrictions.

Topical therapy. The doctor applies creams containing acids or chemicals to the bumps to induce peeling of the top layers of the skin. Topical therapy creams may contain iodine and salicylic acid, tretinoin, cantharidin (a blistering agent that a doctor usually applies), and imiquimod (T cell modifier) Most cases areself-limitingwith resolution of lesions occurring over 6-9 months, although some cases may last for up to four years. Where possible the parents of such children should be encouraged to let the condition run its natural courseIf MolluDab should be spilled, carefully soak the liquid with anabsorbent paper towel and immediately wash the affected areawith plenty of water. In patients with atopic dermatitis (atopic eczema).MolluDab should not be used during flare-ups of atopicdermatitis. Seek advice from your doctor if the area is affected bymolluscum and dermatitis. I am being very careful with towels, washing them after every use and not letting them share clothes etc, in the hope it will stop the spread. I am petrified we will give it to friends too which they certainly wouldn't thank me for!

imiquimod (Aldara), a T cell modifier (although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention don’t recommend its use in children, as it hasn’t been proven effective and can cause severe side effects) Note the date of first use on the box.MolluDab should be usedwithin four weeks after it is first opened.

Topical therapy

Dab all molluscum bumps with the flatside of the spatula and allow the solutionto dry. After 3-5 bumps, you should wetthe spatula with MolluDab again.
