Description

In 1908, in the bylanes of Old Delhi, Hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed decided to create a herbal mix that would help Delhi’s masses stay cool in summer. Selecting herbs and syrups from traditional Unani medicine, he created a drink that would help counter heat strokes, bring down palpitations and prevent water loss. He named it Rooh Afza, which in Urdu literally meant something that refreshes the soul.

Today, he is the CEO of Hamdard India, continuing the family’s work in offering affordable medical care to the masses. Rooh Afza is sold in over 40 countries worldwide, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.Note that the negative effects of sodium benzoate are usually possible when you consume high doses of it. Mansoor Ali, chief sales and marketing officer at Hamdard Laboratories (India), reiterated the drink’s popularity. He said: “If you look at its [Rooh Afza] growth, it is 20 per cent year-on-year, which is pretty phenomenal when you consider that the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry itself is growing in single digits.” Hamdard gives century-old Rooh Afza a facelift". The sherbet, a syrup that is traditionally mixed with water, is believed to have up to 21 ingredients, including sandalwood, vetiver, pine, mint, spinach, and the heady rose – all known for their cooling properties. Thirteen years later, Hakim Said served as governor of Sindh for a year, speaking out against corruption. In 1998, he was shot by members of a rival political party. He was 78. The magic of Rooh Afza worked and in no time, Hamdard Pakistan became very successful. Meanwhile, Hakim Mohammad Said had expanded the company's reach to East Pakistan, opening sales centres in Chattogram and Dhaka. Finally, with the emergence of Bangladesh in 1971, Hamdard Bangladesh came into being.Fruits: There are many fruits used in Rooh Afza, such as watermelon, apple, strawberry, pineapple, berries, grapes, and cherries. Jameela Khatoon, 35, had come to Jama Masjid, a Mughal-era mosque in Old Delhi, along with her family members to have her iftar there. Upon seeing Rooh Afza being sold outside the grand mosque, she immediately bought four bottles.

What is Rooh Afza

A forsaken building in Old Delhi's Lal Kuan Bazar, near the busy Hauz Qazi Chowk, still smells of roses. In 1907 Hakeem Abdul Majeed came up with the formula Rooh Afza in this building. In addition, Rooh Afza lite contains sweeteners such as maltitol and oligosaccharides as sugar substitutes. While these sweeteners eliminate the problem of added sugar, they might cause digestive issues like stomach pain, bloating, and gas in some people.
