With DWR coating on the interior and exterior and synthetic insulation this bag is quite water resistant. The main updates are the move to top-quality Primaloft insulation. Less insulation is used in this updated version, but it retains the same -7°C Comfort Limit. The inner and outer fabrics have also changed to reduce the overall weight without sacrificing warmth or durability. If you are under six feet tall, I definitely recommend NOT buying a long size. Whilst having more space to stretch out may seem like a good idea, its not. More space requires more body heat to warm it up and if you have 6+ inches of the unoccupied sleeping bag space at your feet, it will be cold down there.

The world of sleeping bags can often feel like a cozy maelstrom of choices — there are so many models to choose from, all touting a laundry list of features and specs . We value a few critical things when looking at a bag: reasonable warmth, functional features, comfortable design, and a price point that matches what you’re getting. We also appreciate the removable straps on the bottom of the bag which can be secured around your sleeping pad, preventing you from slip-sliding around at night, and boosting the thermal efficiency of your sleep system as a whole. We take these off for missions where weight is a concern, but appreciate them when we can afford the luxury. The women’s version of the Forte bag has a comfort rating of 20 degrees Fahrenheit, and the men’s is rated at 32 degrees, so as long as the temperature is above that lower limit, you should sleep comfortably through the night. The bag features “gills,” which are two ventilating zippers over the torso area for warm nights that provide extra breathability without letting too much heat escape from inside the bag. You can also open the zipper around the feet to let heat escape. In the heat-retention test that I conducted on all 13 sleeping bags, the Forte was one of the top performers, so once it’s warmed up, it stays warm. Tempo is a roomy and comfy, yet affordable sleeping bag, one of the good choices. Disco may be the most expensive option, but it is light and has additional features. Forte is the middle of both worlds, with affordability and functionality.Admittedly, since I was testing this bag in freezing temperatures, I did not make proper use of the Thermo Gills. That said, in the morning when I woke up, I had the Gills open for a few minutes and could notice a difference. For use in warmish summer alpine climates, keeping the Thermo Gills open throughout the night is much more practical.

Heavier fabric and plenty of fill mean that the Disco weighs in at a hefty two pounds and eleven ounces in the regular. This is still way lighter than a lot of bags but a full pound more than some of the ultralight bags tested. Extreme: This is a survival rating where the user is likely to suffer health damage such as Hypothermia. It should be treated with the utmost caution and not be relied on for general use. For thru-hikers and ultralight fanatics, the name of the game is cut weight at all costs. If you want to have the best warmth to weight ratio, you’re going to have to splash out on something like the REI Magma 15 (1 lb 14 oz.). That is not to say that a higher value will be warmer; the amount of insulating material is also a factor. For example, a bag with twice as much 600-fill down can maintain heat as well as a bag with half that much in 950-fill, but it will consequently be markedly heavier. It is not news that the lifecycle of most material goods is harmful to our environment, most notably the production process, and disposal. In the last few years, we’ve seen a new push in the outdoor industry to take responsibility for its impact on the planet — especially since using outdoor gear depends on having access to outdoor spaces to begin with. The Nemo Forte's heavy-duty zippers withstand wear and extreme conditions. Ebony Roberts For Forbes Reliable Warmth And Comfort Like most of the bags on this list, it offers a dual zipper for venting and a three-dimensional footbed for better warmth around your feet. One unique feature of the footbed is the baffles are designed downward to provide more warmth.

Add the small comforter that you can literally cover your face with if you want, and I think this bag is quite versatile in its warmth. Durability 5 Stars In our view, extra features are just that, nothing that affects the performance of a bag but only adds flair or novelty. The Nemo Disco has two anterior zippered vents so you can regulate internal temperature; (photo/Eric Phillips) Women’s-Specific Sleeping Bags Yes, Nemo is a loved brand among people for good reason. They have sleeping bags for all types of weather conditions and are pretty roomy. Users enjoy these features and prefer the brand for the same. We always recommend that you choose your bag according to the coldest conditions you will experience; you can always unzip a bag if it is too warm, but trying to sleep when you’re too cold is just miserable. Bear in mind that we are all individuals, so we all feel the cold differently and that our own resistance will fluctuate depending on a whole load of factors, including how much we have eaten, whether we have consumed alcohol, whether we need a wee or what kind of mood we are in!

On top of all this, a Life Cycle Assessment will be carried out to ensure that this sleeping bag’s carbon footprint is totally off-set and this will be done through the purchasing of carbon credits that go towards supporting projects that work to clean up our atmosphere. We tested the NEMO Forte 35 in size Regular. It also comes in Long. The Forte line also comes in a 20-degree version, which weighs a bit more and has more insulation meant for colder temperatures. Disco’s compressed volume is only 7.2 liters, almost two liters less than Forte at 9 liters. Due to its superior fabrics and soft fill, it is possible to compress it much further. It’s filled with Marmot’s proprietary HL-ElixR ECO 100% recycled fibers. The shell is 20 denier ripstop nylon, also made from recycled materials. The fit on the Forte 35 was outstanding. Room in the shoulders, and room in the hips. This allowed me to sleep on my side or stomach with ease, and roll around in the night without getting tangled up. Grievances
