Description

A dreamy story of caretaking and letting go in the surreally gorgeous picture book Lizzy and the Cloud. This subtle, whimsical reflection on the caretaker relationship provides many openings for discussing growth and letting go.” — Shelf Awareness for Readers. The Thing About Jellyfish, written by Ali Benjamin (Little Brown, Fall 2015). Cover art by Terry and Eric Fan.Cover design by Marcie Lawrence at Little, Brown and Company, with Sasha Illingworth and Dave Caplan. We loved this story and me and Little Lady decided we would definitely like Barnabus as our pet. She said he was very cute!

Then the unthinkable. Each confinement was stamped fail. Barnabus did not understand what that meant. Upon finding out that the failed "projects" were to be destroyed, Barnabus chooses to try and break out of his confinement and help others break free as well. Barnabus is the cutest half mouse, half elephant ever! He lives in a lab of Failed Projects with an adorable gang of misfits. They’ve all been labeled failed or un-perfect, but who decides who or what is perfect? These guys like who they are! Can they escape and find a home of their own out in the world? A place where they can be themselves? I “honk”—ing hope so!With intricate graphite illustrations, the Fan brothers deliver a lovely story about how the creatures in a garden react when an unknown marble-like object falls from the sky.” - School Library Journal Starred Review. Only the humans - who play a rather small part in this story - are depicted rather dull in comparison to them. So he decides it's time for he and the others to escape. With his little trunk and a lot of cooperation and courage, Barnabus sets out to find freedom - and a place where he and his friends can finally be accepted for who they are. Deep underground beneath Perfect Pets, where children can buy genetically engineered "perfect" creatures, there is a secret lab. Barnabus and his friends live in this lab, but none of them is perfect. They are all Failed Projects. Have you had a chance to read this one yet? It could very well be my new favourite read aloud! I have really enjoyed books by the Fan Brothers in the past ( Scarecrow is really beautiful!), but this one is definitely my favourite. From the imagination of two acclaimed picture book creators, together for the first time, this dreamlike picture book is a magical ode to Victorian lunch wagons. Evoking the sounds, sights, smells and tastes of the city at night, Night Lunch reveals how empathy and kindness as well as dignity and gratitude can be found — and savored — in the most unexpected places.” The Barnabus Project would definitely make a special gift for someone or a treasured keepsake. Either way I highly recommend this adorable book! This suspenseful, poignant and magical story about following your dreams and finding where you truly belong will draw readers into a surreal, lushly detailed world in which perfection really means being true to yourself and your friends. (From Tundra Books) This seems like a simple premise to a story but it has deep undertones of why anything that isn't perfect is deemed damaged instead of just different and beautiful in it's own special way. That a world without diversity would be a boring place to live and that just because the outsides look different the insides are still the same.

Eric Fan and Terry Fan are brothers and frequent collaborators on children's books. Their books include The Night Gardener and Ocean Meets Sky. They also illustrated The Darkest Dark by Chris Hadfield. In the Fan brothers’ hands, the result feels like a happy amalgam of Jules Verne, Maurice Sendak, the Moomins, and Monsters, Inc.” —STARRED REVIEW , Quill & Quire Therefore Pip makes the decision to escape his jar and take his friends with him so that they are not recycled either. One thing that I wish is that there could be a bit more text and depth story just because of the topics that this book focuses on. I would had liked if the main themes would have been explored a little more. The Barnabus Project begins by letting us know that not all is what it seems. Beneath the Pet Store, underground several stories, is a particular work facility. Here is where we find Barnabus.

Swim, cycle, parachute jump, climb a mountain, shave your head, organise an event - the only limit is your imagination! The Darkest Dark is about a boy who transitions from being afraid of the dark to wanting to explore every corner of the universe. Astronaut Chris Hadfield collaborated with Toronto-based writer Kate Fillion on the book, which is illustrated by The Fan Brothers. Published by Tundra Books in Canada, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in the U.S., and Macmillan Children's Books UK, acquired world rights to the book, excluding North American English and Canadian French. Join us for another exciting and festive 5K Santa Dash in Heaton Park on Saturday 3rd December with our friends at Parkrun. We hope you will join in the fun and raise much needed funds to transform the lives of people experiencing homelessness. Barnabus lives in a lab under the Perfect Pets store with the other Failed Projects. He's happy but longs for a life outside his glass jar. When the Green Rubber Suits plan to "recycle" Barnabus and his friends into genetically perfect pets, the animals decide to run for it. During the chase, Barnabus is forced to choose between perfection and freedom. The pictures in this book are magical, and the story emphasizes the importance of following your dreams, trusting your friends, and realizing that you don't have to be perfect to be happy. An emotionally impactful exploration of love and loneliness, this is an essential addition to any picture book collection." - School Library Journal Starred Review .
