In The Dark Tower series, Randall appears under the guise of several figures, including the Man in Black, Walter O'Dim, Marten Broadcloak, and his actual name, Walter Padick. Faceless Men are trained to relinquish their former identities and become "no one", which allows them to become entirely different people, all in service to the Many-Faced God. Chin was planning on using his unique DNA and cell structure to create a virus to eradicate half the planet's population.

This could explain why Chihiro catches No-Face’s eye and why he was the only one able to detect her on the bridge. No-Face reappears after he is let into the Bathhouse by a considerate Chihiro, who worried that he would get wet while waiting out in the rain. A little girl might see him as a ghost and another might see his wide mouth and declare him a monster. The novel is well written, the characters well drawn and Peter May's talent for describing dark and icy landscapes is also evident. The noppera-bō ( のっぺらぼう), or faceless ghost, is a Japanese yōkai that looks like a human but has no face.

Later in the film, when his true mouth is revealed (not the one painted on the mask), there isn’t a fang in sight.
