One benefit of this extra width is that when running longer distances it gives your foot ample space to spread. However, some may find it simply too wide. Even for me - someone with a pretty wide, chunky set of feet - they feel roomy, although this is partly down to the sizing. So take note of both the sizing and the fit, because both play a crucial part. Bergen runs hot, but reported that his feet never overheated or got clammy, nor did they get soaked by the snow — which was a notable victory for this shoe. Testing the SCARPA Ribelle Run Kalibra while trudging through snow; (photo/Bergen Tjossem) Additional information about how data is collected and processed by third-party analytics vendors is found at: The SCARPA Ribelle Run Kalibra G runs far more pleasantly on moderate terrain than either tester expected, given their burly sole. They roll naturally and are plush enough to push the mileage. The gaiters are not restricting in the slightest. Currently only full European sizes are available in the UK and there is a size conversion to be aware of. There is about ¾ of a UK size between European sizes. The Ribelle Run fit a bit on the big side. I have a Euro 46 and usually wear a Euro 46.5 in most brands. In my experience the Ribelle Run size half a Euro size larger than most running brands, so I would suggest trying half a size smaller than you usually use.

Hoka Speedgoat: The cushioning is a bit softer but, you lose the feel for the floor. So, the Speedgoat doesn’t feel as nimble as the Ribelle Run. The Speedgoat is a bit more bouncy in feel. Here is our Speedgoat review: https://www.northernrunner.com/blog/hoka-one-one-speedgoat-evo-review/ It took me some time to figure out exactly what was the source of the issue with the Ribelle Run’s ride, and after over 100+ miles, I think I’ve gathered enough anecdotal evidence to speculate. The problem starts with the stiffness of the midsole; instead of delivering high amounts of energy return, the EVA feels both inflexible and unresponsive. I think swapping out the existing midsole with one that is lighter and more cushioned would benefit future iterations of the model, which is otherwise tremendously well made, in my opinion. The Ortholite insoles Scarpa uses do add some plushness to the overall feel of the shoe, but not enough to offset the harshness I felt from its otherwise rigid platform. Technical trail shoes do generally need to be built studier than models intended for general use, but I think the Ribelle Run would be just fine without Scarpa’s “Dynamic Stabilizer Torsion” frame as well. The DST frame is included in the shoe’s midsole and wraps under the arch before extending along both sides of the heel for added stability and torsion control, but in my experience, it interfered with my natural footstrike by being too restrictive. From a design standpoint, the shoes have some significant differences. The Kalibra’s gaiter (which Bergen much preferred) is about an inch taller and comes with a secure closure strap at the top. The Cyklon Cross zipper, in comparison, has a tendency to creep downward. Our women’s tester adjusting the zipper and the cuff on the Ribelle Run Kalibra G; (photo/Katherine Murphy)The first thing I would mention is sizing. Ordinarily I would expect to size up with a running shoe, maybe by half a size to a size depending on the shoe. With the Ribelle Run I would warn against going overboard, as it feels quite generous in terms of both its sizing and its fit, and it's probably worth going with your standard street shoe size at least to begin with, then go up (or potentially even down) from there. Note that the preceding provision regarding venue may not apply if you are a consumer based in the European Union, however, in all cases, the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods shall not apply in any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms; As per the comments in Fit, I wasn't a fan of the speed lacing, but do like the traditional laces supplied. The former felt a little sharp, and I found myself wanting a little more precision, although a part of this potentially comes down to the fact I was having to over-tighten due to the sizing issue I was experiencing. Summary

SCARPA’s failure to enforce all or any part of these Terms or respond to a breach thereof by you or any other party shall not in any way be construed as a waiver or a relinquishment of any right granted SCARPA hereunder of the future performance of all or any part of these Terms, and your obligations set forth in these Terms shall continue in full force and effect. Moving upward, both the men’s and women’s versions tighten using a BOA Fit System. BOA dials are often susceptible to snapping, so both of our testers instinctively approach them with caution. But Mary and Bergen both liked this one. It’s low profile and out of the way. Both Mary and Bergen tested these shoes all over in the Colorado snow, both on maintained trails and off-trail. Wearing these comfortable, secure shoes before they needed to strap on skis or crampons was huge. A printed version of these Terms and of any notice given in electronic form shall be admissible in any mediation or arbitration proceeding based upon or relating to these Terms to the same extent and subject to the same conditions as other business documents and records originally generated and maintained in printed form. All headings in these Terms are for convenience or reference only and shall be ignored in construing these Terms. His feet, on the other hand, were miraculously dry. And that wasn’t the first time the SCARPA Ribelle Run Kalibra G winter trail shoes impressed Bergen. There’s another new Italian winter trail runner competing for gold this season: the La Sportiva Cyklon Cross GTX, which GearJunkie reviewed late last year. The Cyklon Cross and the Kalibra have a lot in common. In fact, the average runner might have trouble finding any differences between the two from the outside. They both have an integrated BOA system, zippered gaiter, and big outsole lugs. The women's Ribelle Run trail running shoe is for those who are looking for absolute precision and high adaptability on any degree of difficulty or type of terrain. It is designed for short to medium distance trail and skyrunning. This lightweight, high performance shoe is perfect for athletes who are seeking sensitivity and precision on rough, technical terrain. The diagonal zipper here is offset, and not resting directly on the bones on the top of your feet. The gaiter material is Polartec Windbloc, which promises a balance of water resistance and breathability. Both testers found that to be the case out on the trail.

If any provision in these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable under applicable law, the invalid or unenforceable provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary and deemed superseded by a valid, enforceable provision that most closely matches the intent of the original provision and the remaining provisions of these Terms will continue in full force and effect. Altra Lone Peak: A more natural feel to the ride with a broad rounded toe box: https://www.northernrunner.com/blog/altra-lone-peak-5-review/ Whilst I'm aware looks aren't everything, there's no denying that the TPU thermal bonded uppers look seriously, seriously cool and that the Ribelle Run is - at least cosmetically speaking - a truly stunning looking shoe. On a more practical level, the bonded uppers offer good abrasion resistance - exactly what you want for a technical shoe, which is destined to get a good scuffing. It also sheds mud pretty effectively, with very few seams that grains of grit can make their way into and work away at the weaknesses within. Scarpa’s ‘Ribelle’ is a range of footwear that is designed for the most technical mountain conditions. The Ribelle Run is the running shoe within that range and has been designed for fast running over technical terrain. In my opinion I found them to be a very versatile trail running shoe. They are not just a ‘race shoe’ and are comfortable to wear on a variety of terrains and distances. You may log on to scarpa.com as a registered user, access your account, and change or update your information and manage newsletter preferences. Fit is subjective, but Bergen wore the men’s version of these shoes around his house all day and then ran 9 miles in the afternoon the first day he had them. He experienced zero hotspots, no overheating, and no discomfort. The SCARPA Ribelle Run Kalibra G shoes impressed both Mary and him —even with the thin factory insoles.
