When the American Goodfellas come to London to see how they can cooperate with the Krays, there is a funny scene. They just needed to find a way to squeeze a few pounds out of everyone and they would have more than enough to live well.

The Krays: A Violent Business: The Definitive Inside Story of

The happiness of his family and school life was snatched from Jamie when his father was sentenced to ten years in prison for his involvement in the killing of Jack “The Hat” McVitie. This will be the first wholly objective look at how the twins came to power, fell, and, at least in the public eye, rose again. Because the papers needed a good gangster story, the Kray connection meant money for anyone who could sell a story about them. Many paranoid schizophrenic assume the personas of someone like Napoleon, Teddy Roosevelt, or Winston Churchill because the lives of these people are the only lives big enough to explain their own grand vision of themselves. It was easy reading, although at times I did get a bit bogged down in who was who, as he introduced a plethora of different characters.

When people started to point to Peter, it was Reggie and Ronnie who went up to him and said, "who gave you permission to shoot here?

In a slim volume of his writings from prison, Thoughts, published in 1991, he wrote that “my eventual aim is to be recognised, first as a man and eventually as an author, poet and philosopher. A former punk rocker, Jones came into contact with the brothers when Reggie wrote to him from Maidstone prison, having learned that he ran a crime museum. On what turned out to be a fateful day, 28 October 1967, Lambrianou arrived with McVitie at what they thought was going to be a party, but was in fact a trap. Though Peter told the twins they had permission from the police to film, Reggie and Ronnie forced their "protection" onto them. In 1985, he wed Elaine Mildener, who had been writing to him in Broadmoor – as did many women – and visited him with Flanagan.

Flanagan did Violet’s hair at her home in Vallance Road – “Fort Vallance” as it became known – in east London because if she came to the salon, Violet, sitting under the dryer, would be pestered by people wanting the twins to “have a word” with someone on their behalf. There was also quite significant moments particularly in childhood that formed the basis for their relationship, various family influences and strong influence from the old east end they were brought up in also played a strong role in their formulative years. We looked at an artist’s impression of the 10 men in the dock which is reproduced in Lambrianou’s book and which had been drawn, during the trial, for the Daily Mirror by Oliver Williams.

In recent years there have been allegations that he was both a serial molester of women and a police informer, both far from the general picture of a hail-fellow-well-met man manipulated by his younger brothers. Their influence was restricted to a relatively small geographical area and they were despised by the seasoned bank robbing fraternity. In the book, it says it is suicide, but after looking more online, it is revealed that Reggie knew what really happened.

The Profession of Violence: The Rise And Fall of the Kray Twins (1995) by John Pearson is an interesting biography/true crime book about the infamous Kray Twins. They were a strong and powerful force that made men bigger, stronger, and smarter reluctant to tangle with them. They brought over Joe Louis, the former heavyweight champion of the world, and they would take him round the clubs and make him sign boxing gloves for people. They took him to their homes, their London clubs, dined him in the House of Lords, introduced him to celebrities. You’ve done bugger all,” she tells him and adds “bollocks to the lot of you,” as she takes her boy back to Vallance Road. The following year, Jack “the Hat” McVitie, who had also caused the twins some minor grief, was persuaded to attend a party in Stoke Newington, north-east London, where Reggie stabbed him to death, again in front of numerous witnesses. As The Krays gained power they didn’t have to worry about witnesses anymore because everyone had learned that mum is the word in regards to anything involving The Krays.
