Arguably the most controversial film on the list, ‘Ma Mere’ is easily the most disturbing and unwatchable film about incest ever made. The film features the great Isabelle Huppert playing an incestuous mother obsessed with sex who asks her son to have sex with her. They make violent love as Helene asks her son to physically hurt her by cutting her abdomen, and as his masturbation reaches its climax, she slits her own throat. The film is blatantly provocative and, for the most part, plain unwatchable, but you just fail to take your eyes off of an explosive Isabelle Huppert, who is in top form here. This is the film I show people when they say that Martin Scorsese is a very unemotional director. Few love stories have been as emotionally devastating and brutally painful as ‘The Age of Innocence.’ It tells the story of Newland Archer – a young and ambitious lawyer engaged to a woman from a highly respected family. However, things change when Archer falls in love with his fiancee’s cousin, Ellen. Their repressed emotions intensify the passion and intimacy of their relationship, making their eventual fate a deeply tragic one. It’s brutal, inexplicably painful, and too powerful to even talk about. There are many yaoi and BL anime series that contain questionable and disturbing themes; however, Papa to Kiss in the Dark is definitely a gem among them. The anime explores the relationship (mostly sexual) between a father and son and what happens when the son finds out that he is actually adopted. What makes Papa to Kiss in the Dark a great candidate for taboo material is the portrayal of an adult man who takes it upon himself to raise and look after a small child but turns him into his lover instead.

year-old Laurent Chevalier, played brilliantly by Benoît Ferreux, is in many ways an avatar for Malle –– both suffered from heart murmurs and both opposed the First Indochina War, for starters –– and is often compared favorably to François Truffaut’s likewise autobiographical film, The 400 Blows. Boys Don’t Cry’ is a harrowing look at repressed sexuality and gender identity. The film is based on the real-life story of Brandon Teena, an American trans man who was brutally raped and killed in Nebraska. Brandon, played by Hillary Swank, adopts a male identity and moves to Nebraska, where he falls in love with Lana. They remain lovers despite Lana discovering Brandon’s true identity. Their romance is painful and uncertain as violence consumes their blissful but brief and fleeting span of time. If your idea of powerful cinema happens to be one that has the power to devastate and disturb you emotionally, then this is your kind of film. Kodomo no Jikan (A Child's Time) MAL Rated 7.15, Ranked #2820 | Aired Fall 2007 | Produced by DiomedeaOn Wednesday, July 24, Eve Ensler, the writer and activist who created 'The Vagina Monologues' and 'V-Day', is in the red chair.

When people say European cinema, the names most often mentioned are Andrei Tarkovsky, Ingmar Bergman, Jean Luc-Godard, Luis Bunuel, Michael Haneke, and so on and so forth. But Krzysztof Kieslowski‘s name is often sadly overlooked, and in my humble opinion, he’s right up there with the aforementioned greats as one of the finest auteurs European cinema has ever produced. He had this ability to get so deeply personal and intimate that it leaves you soaked in a plethora of emotions. This is a post-war instructional film on menstruation that mainly focuses on teaching girls about how to use sanitary pads, but also gets into some odd advice: don't get your feet wet while you have your period. Make sure not to catch a chill. And look around for a nice hot drink if you're feeling out of sorts. We focus on Barbara, played by the beautiful Kay Parker, who's husband walks out on her in the opening scene of the film following stiff sex and a continuing downward spiral in their marriage. This leaves Barbara crushed and without financial support, forcing her to go out in the working world to find a job. However, because she's approaching middle-age, she is immediately unattractive to a great deal of employers, yet still manages to land a secretary job with a perverted boss. Meanwhile, Barbara's only son Paul (Mike Ranger) spends most of his time with his girlfriend Sherrie (Dorothy LeMay), who loves having sex with him. Another loli anime, but even more notorious than Mitsudomoe. The main characters are once again three underage girls who try their best to seduce, embarrass, and twist their new virginal teacher around their little fingers. The idea of three girls who are still basically children lobbing dirty jokes at their teacher and him actually responding and blushing at their advances is the reason why this anime found its way to this list. The scenes here carry a terrific level of eroticism and hold weight as some of the sexiest I've seen in pornography yet. They are intimate, usually assisted by soft, soulful music choices rather than ones that hinder the scenes themselves, and are beautifully constructed to flow very naturally. It also helps that, again, Parker and Ranger are such talented performers, able to act, have sex, and get emotional all in a film that's very intelligently written, which only elevates the level of believability here.
