Description

Woven mesh is regarded as the more attractive of the two and, therefore, while it is also used industrially, it is the more common of the two to be used in architectural and interior applications where a more decorative appearance is required. Due to the popularity of its use decoratively, a wide variety of styles of woven mesh have been developed where the wires are intertwined by different, interesting methods and in different patterns to achieve different shaped holes and patterned surfaces. Some examples of these are the twilled Dutch weave and reverse Dutch weave. Yet more effects can be achieved by combining different profiles of the same material, for example using a wider diameter or all the horizontally oriented elements or by using a square wire in one direction and a round wire in another. Combining different metals is another possibility. Decorative wire mesh can even be created using other materials in combination with metal such as plastic and leather. I would like to thank you personally for all of your help and advice you gave us it saved us hours of looking into details of various mesh sizes and your help made massive difference in our Covid-19 ventilator project. The best material from which to weave mesh is metal, which has been made into wires. The major difference between woven mesh and welded mesh is that with the woven variety the wires are not actually joined together at any point. They are merely held in place by the alternating nature of the location of their neighbouring wires in relation to each other. This imbues the wire mesh panels with a flexible characteristic beyond that of the flexibility of the wire used. As such, a more rigid and self-supporting panel results and any resultant flexibility would depend on the diameter and qualities of the wires used. Woven wire mesh panels are a traditional product still in production, which have been around for hundreds of years. Welded wire mesh panels are a relatively modern invention, designed as a cheaper option as it is more economical to produce in large quantities. Welded wire mesh panels are, therefore, used in more industrial and practical applications such as fencing and animal cages.

Customer service: The Mesh Company place a high priority on service and offer excellent support and assistance to our customers. This can help to ensure that you will have a positive experience when working with The Mesh Company. Weaving is the method of wire panel production in which two distinct sets of wires are interlaced at right angles to form a semi rigid panel. The advantages of weaving over welding are that the decorative woven panel is inherently more attractive with a distinctly authentic and historical appearance. Also the woven wire grille is slightly more flexible under stress, meaning that if wire panels are curved or hit, they can deform briefly but then return to their original state, whereas a welded wire panel would just stay bent. Ideal for use in radiator covers, bookcase and cabinet doors inserts, custom ventilation, fine furniture and interior screening. Natural brass grilles are sprayed with a fine clear lacquer to resist tarnishing and maintain appearance (unless requested otherwise). This is a woven product that can move and flex, so absolute flatness should not be expected on large, fitted panels, without grilles attached to the fronts, to which they are held at regular frequencies across the panel The majority of woven wire meshes are now woven on large industrial scale machines and very few are woven by hand. We have both the technology and skill to offer both types and will make recommendations as to which type is the most appropriate depending on the project in mind. Typically, woven wire mesh required for industrial purposes will be machine made along with the very fine mesh, whilst mesh woven especially for interior decoration would be more likely to benefit from the extra personal attention of hand weaving. Hand woven mesh has the advantage over other types of mesh of giving a more traditional feel to a room decor. Also, we have an ever expanding YouTube channel. We created this channel to help showcase our products, inform our customers on the wire mesh market, and use our position as a trusted authority in our industry to help all to understand exactly what metal mesh can offer. Filtration: Brass mesh with a hole size of 0.263mm is commonly used as a filter medium for liquids and gases. It can effectively remove particles and impurities while allowing the liquid or gas to flow through. Copper is a popular decorative material for external use, being used for ventilation grilles both for its practical benefits and also because of the interesting way in which it tarnishes. When it is new it is a bright shiny orange/pink colour, as it ages it slowly darkens to a flat brown and if left for longer will adopt a patina called verdigris, which is bright turquoise in colour. This effect is often employed for decorative roofing purposes. The turquoise colour is a result of the slow reaction between the copper and the air resulting in copper carbonate. This was used by the ancient Greeks as a pigment in their artworks. Decorative screens and panels can be woven from copper and if used outside will become more striking as they age. Copper ventilation grilles are sometimes seen on historic buildings where they are set into stonework.

We are always using our knowledge and experience to bring innovative products and metal processing techniques to the market and our 2016 range includes a whole portfolio of new materials designed to contrast and compliment our metalwork. The location of our central London works makes us ideally located for supplying high quality decorative metalwork at short notice to satisfy the fast paced requirements of London’s design and construction industries. Regency radiator cover grilles are most often used where people are choosing grilles that are suitable for an historic environment or to help reproduce one. AUTHENTIC REGENCY RADIATOR SCREENS

Patinated & Plated Mesh Contrast

Plating and treatments such as chrome platingor antiquing are processes applied to the solid brass grille that increase price and manufacture timescales. As well as in domestic cabinets and radiator covers, and library cupboards doors, round wire grilles were a popular choice for early automobile manufacturers. When the round wire is given an extra crimp between the joints it makes the overall panel more rigid and this made it particularly suitable for making stone guards for headlamps and car radiator screens as they allowed sufficient light and air through them whilst protecting that which was behind them from being chipped by stones thrown up from the road by other vehicles. We still manufacture grilles of this nature and sometimes it is the vintage and veteran car enthusiasts who choose to have similar vehicular style grilles in their houses. Images note: Product images may vary slightly in shade due to lighting during imaging, your monitor display set up and colour variation changes between batch manufacturing. Wire woven from fine brass requires gentle care to maintain its appearance and integrity. The following steps can be taken to maintain fine brass woven wire: This product is stiff but flexible enough to form around shapes if required and can be trimmed with sturdy scissors. Woven wire panels are initially woven oversize and then trimmed to the correct size. Both the weaving and the trimming are done by hand in exactly the same way that they have been done for hundreds of years.

Other Types of Mesh

Quality products: We offer high-quality products that are designed to meet the needs of a wide range of customers. Cut to Size) and Expanded Steel Grilles Natural brass, antique brass and stainless steel woven wire mesh and powder Aluminium is very light, is used to make aeroplanes and is best if painted or anodised to prevent tarnishing. Radiator covers and cabinets are one of the most popular uses for decorative grilles. When used for this purpose the panels of mesh themselves are often referred to as radiator grilles or radiator cover meshes.

None of these colouring and plating processes detract from the elegant and timeless form of the woven structure of the decorative mesh panels themselves, in fact most of them enhance it. Metal grilles can be used both internally and externally and depending on where they are to be used certain metals are more appropriate. This is the case with most metal products. External ventilation grilles are most commonly used to allow the free flow of air between the inside and the outside of a building. Whilst it is actually the duct that runs between the two environments through which the air spends most of its time travelling, it is the vent grille at either end which effectively provides a type of filter allowing only the air to pass through freely whilst acting as a hindrance to all but the smallest of visible particles and beasties. At the external face of the building a vent grille will be placed over the end of the duct to stop creatures such as birds and mice from gaining ingress. Usually this type of vent grille is plain in design and often of a similar colour to its surroundings so as to render it as invisible or at least unobtrusive as possible. The most appropriate metals for this purpose are stable ones, which are the least affected by the elements. Brass grilles are not often used outside.
