Description

The artwork throughout the book is excellent, often eliciting a giggle by itself. Many of the pieces in the book have become familiar art pieces for the setting individually, and these range from epic depictions of the view of the Disc and its supporting elephants and turtle from its moon to more intimate portraits of the characters and creatures. Kidby does a particularly great job at capturing Carrot's charismatic heroism and Rincewind's world-weary fatalism. Pratchett’s perceptive and laugh-out-loud Discworld series is a literary phenomenon. And in The Last Hero, one aging hero with a grudge decides enough is enough. Beautifully illustrated throughout by Paul Kidby.

The Horde's end is ambiguous. Valkyries come to take the heroes to the Halls of the Slain, where a feast has been prepared for them. Instead, the Silver Horde, refusing to accept their deaths, steal the valkyries' horses and set off to find other worlds to " do heroic stuff in." Death does not appear to them, as he often does when Discworld characters die, although he subsequently appears to Vena, and is evasive about whether he is " collecting". aptallığa şahit olmaya devam ediyoruz. Kah resimlere müdahale ediliyor, kah sayfaların arka planlarındaki grafikler siliniyor, kah "aman yaaa," diye çizimler tamamen çıkarılıp atılıyor. It stars the legendary Cohen the Barbarian, a legend in his own lifetime. Cohen can remember when a hero didn't have to worry about fences and lawyers and civilisation, and when people didn't tell you off for killing dragons. But he can't always remember, these days, where he put his teeth... Conan and his troupe have been on the Disc for a VERY long time without dying. But age is a matter of perspective as anyone trying to kill them finds out very briefly before their very own meeting with Binky and his master.

So we get a madcap ride in a very daring contraption utilizing dragons, lots of hilarity from Rincewind pointing out the obvious death traps, Gods that don't understand sarcasm and much much more. Oh, and space! Yup, this novel had everything. It wonderfully caps Rincewind's series of adventures , neatly and directly tying up his Disc-spanning journey that began in the foundational The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic ' Goodreads reviewer, ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

It's been some time since (on the one hand, Sir Terry Pratchett passed and) I read my way through pretty much everything Pratchett wrote (which, as I recall, was more than 40 novels, including his sublime collaboration with Neil Gaiman and more than a handful of young adult and even kids books), all of which I appreciated and enjoyed, often for wildly different reasons. And, frankly, with the exception of the very first Discworld book (in which, to my mind, he hadn't hit his stride yet), Pratchett never disappointed. The ultimate gift for the legions of Sir Terry Pratchett fans--a gorgeous full-color illustrated Discworld fable. Lord Vetinari wishes to stop them, and recruits the help of the Wizards of Unseen University—all that can now prevent the world from being blown up is the crew of a swamp-dragon-powered-slingshot-spacecraft, consisting of its designer Leonard of Quirm, volunteer Captain Carrot, and involuntary volunteer Rincewind. In this rather short but very good 27th volume of the Discworld novels, we follow Conan the Barbarian and his friends heroes horde. As always, Pratchett combines pure comedy with razor-sharp observation of human foibles, combined with an ability to cut through to the essence of things: 'People think that it is strange to have a turtle ten thousand miles long and an elephant more than two thousand miles tall, which just shows that the human brain is ill-adapted for thinking and was probably originally designed for cooling the blood. It believes mere size is amazing...There's nothing amazing about size. Turtles are amazing, and elephants are quite astonishing. But the fact that there's a big turtle is far less amazing than the fact that there is a turtle anywhere.' Pratchett weaves a tale around one of my favourite Discworld characters - Cohen the Barbarian, a lifetime in his own legend. Generally pissed off with the world and the Gods, he decides to go out with a bang. It's up to Rincewind, Carrot and Leonard of Quirm to stop him and save the world! It plays on themes of old age and the challenges it brings, whilst simultaneously playing around with themes of the heroic saga and the battle between good and evil.

Delidolu adlı aptallık yığınının içine sıçtığı güzelim Terry Pratchett ve Paul Kidby kitabı veya başka bir bakışla Discworld'ün yirmi yedinci kitabı: Pratchett] managed to perfectly blend a carefully crafted plot, with humour, steampunk gadgets, and of course the librarian . Pratchett really was the comic fantasy master' Goodreads reviewer, ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ The twenty-seventh Discworld book is another departure from the standard format of the series. Like the earlier Eric, The Last Hero was written and designed as an illustrated project. Unlike Eric, The Last Hero was never designed to be reissued without its illustrations, and they are more dynamically and essentially integrated into the book. It stars the legendary Cohen the Barbarian, a legend in his own lifetime. Cohen can remember when a hero didn’t have to worry about fences and lawyers and civilisation, and when people didn’t tell you off for killing dragons. But he can’t always remember, these days, where he put his teeth…So their plan is to go out on a bang. And what would be better for that than returning to the Gods what had been stolen from them by the very first hero - Conan-style though. The titular character refers to Cohen the Barbarian, who, along with his geriatric Silver Horde, has embarked on one final quest: To return the fire the First Hero stole from the Gods to give to mankind... with interest... in the form of a sled of explosives. The Discworld's Last Heroes plan to go out with a bang, and they've made sure to kidnap a minstrel tasked with composing a saga so their final deed won't be forgotten. After the Horde leave with the Valkyries' horses, their first stop is to visit Mazda where he is being punished, cut off his chains, give him something to drink, and leave him a sword so that he may deal with his punisher. The bard, changed by his experience, composes a new style of saga, one with musical accompaniment, about it. Cohen the Barbarian is one of the greatest heroes in the history of the Disc. He has defeated many enemies, found much treasure and conquered several empires. But his well-earned retirement of riches and power is a bit on the boring side, so he's now come up with a new idea: to return fire to the gods and confront them on their home ground of Dunmanifestin, atop the ten-mile spire of Cori Celesti at the very heart of the world. Unfortunately, this will destroy the Disc and everything on it. Fortunately, the wizards of Unseen University are ready to join forces with Leonardo da Quirm and the Ankh-Morpork City Watch to save the day. Or at least try to. Taking aim at heroes and hero worship, Pratchett describes a time when the world needs saving and Rincewind and Carrot are up for the task. Also center stage is Cohen the Barbarian and his Silver Horde as well as Blind Io and the small gods of the Discworld. Cohen and his band of octogenarian heroes invade the gates of the gods in the mystical city of Dunmanifestin. We also get to see the Discworld’s answer to Leonardo da Vinci, Leonard da Quirm.

tatsız taraflara geleceğiz ama kendilerine Delidolu/Tudem diyen şer odağı tarafından kitabın nasıl içinden geçildiğine gelmeden önce, yakaladığım referanslar, gözüme takılan bir iki detay ve aldığım notları kısa kısa aktarmak istiyorum: There's really only enough material here for a short story, Discworld Lite, if you will, but there's still plenty to enjoy. Meeting the Gods was fun. I LOVE that there is a God of Unnecessary Paperwork and a Goddess of Certain Types of Ice Cream and Short Lengths of String. I didn’t like the format, because the lines were really long which made it hard to read. I started holding the book a foot away from my face and it sped up the reading considerably, but it was still uncomfortable. Ultimately, I'm glad I read it. I've invested too much of my reading resources (time, attention, money) over the years to Pratchett to not have, I guess, belatedly completed the Discworld cycle.
