I do think it is worth reading, though, especially if you're a fan of her work or wanted something to read for Pride Month. This book is a fantastic starting point for anyone curious about the spectral nature of identity and sexuality. But more than that, it speaks of transitional moments we all go through in our lives, and how to recognise them as such. After the L’Oréal campaign was announced, someone she went to university with sent a screenshot to the Daily Mail and what happened next made her notorious. I was expecting from the blurb for this to be more of a manifesto than a memoir, when really it's the other way around for a lot of the book, with a lot focused on Bergdorf's own experiences and drawing out her conclusions from that, but by the end the book moves more towards her activism and the importance of activism and spaces and communities for making change.

In 2019, she was awarded an honorary doctorate for her contributions campaigning for transgender rights by the University of Brighton, and was recently appointed a National Advocate for UN Women UK. It’s such a shame, especially with these gender critical feminists like JK Rowling and Baroness Nicholson,” she said.In 2019, Bergdorf was awarded an honorary doctorate for campaigning for transgender rights by the University of Brighton, and served as National Advocate for UN Women UK. The bestselling LGBTQ+ graphic novel about life, love, and everything that happens in between: this is the fifth volume of the Heartstopper series. As a cis gender white woman with a trans daughter this was a hard listen at times BUT it’s a dialogue we should ALL be listening to and taking part in.

Bergdorf has spoken out recently about fellow Bloomsbury author JK Rowling, whose recent comments about transgender rights Bergdorf described as transphobic. Featuring a vibrant rainbow design, and our super-sized Q logo, you won't find a more stylish way to make a statement. The idea that we must navigate difficulties and heal from trauma is so vague that it feels almost as if Bergdorf is trying to make herself believe it.Crucially, it reframes the conversation away from the medicalisation of trans people – such a small part of the trans experience – and shifts focus onto the real story, sheer humanity.

A Serving of Crime with a Difference - You May Just Discover Something Unique, Different, or Unusual in These 20 Crime Novels. As you start reading Transitional, it might come as little surprise that every word of this honest and enriching book feels very carefully chosen. After reading this, I'm more aware of pivotal moments in my past, and I found there was a lot I could relate to. An hour-long documentary that bravely explores the changing perceptions of gender and identity in today’s society, it solidified Munroe as an important progressive voice in UK culture. As a model and an outspoken activist, who was hired and fired by L’Oréal in the space of a week in 2017 over comments she made in response to violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, Bergdorf said she felt that, until now, “my intelligence has been undermined, and I’ve been underestimated a lot in a lot of different instances”.

She has recently been appointed as Contributing Editor at British Vogue, and has contributed to publications including the Guardian, Evening Standard, Grazia, i-D, Elle, Teen Vogue and Paper Magazine. I always find it difficult to critique someone's memoir when it's their life, and they have chosen where to draw the lines in terms of sharing.

L’Oréal sacked her (though they rehired her in 2020), other brands dropped her and she received horrific abuse on social media. At other points in the book, there were some generalised statements about how, people are viewed in society that felt less backed up, for example how bisexuality and gender intersect, and it would've been good to know if that was based on statistics or was more of an opinion as it was presented as a fact without comment. I had thought it was a memoir but I'd say that as it is, the text was probably more suited for say a blog form OR it should have been made clearer. En conséquence, toutes les commandes passées en ligne entre le 26 et le 31 janvier seront retardées. She is currently a National Advocate for UN Women and sits on L'Oréal's Diversity and Inclusion board. When Munroe Bergdorf began to transition in 2009, her only goal was to be perceived as the gender by which she identified. Unsurprisingly, Bergdorf was confused about her attraction to boys/men pre-transition, was subjected to multiple forms of abuse and violence: sexual, physical, emotional, etc.
