Councillor Ross McCristal, Derby City Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture, Tourism and Wellbeing, said: The event is produced by Derby LIVE, Derby City Council’s events arm, with the support of Derby Season of Light, media partner Smooth Radio and sponsor CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent Full Fibre platform and builder of Gigabit City Derby. Derbion has announced the brand-new experience which will launch next month (November 10) and will combine traditional festive activities with state-of-the-art technology to create a memorable day for those in attendance. The festivities will take place on Level 1 of the shopping centre next to Clarks and hopes to provide families with a plethora of fun and games. Visitors will be invited to begin their day by meeting Santa's elves and Snowy Joey which will then bge followed with a visit to the Magic Wishing Well to plant a special seed that's "travelled all the way from the North Pole", organisers have said. Everyone who has been involved in the workshops will be invited to gather at the Spot (St Peter’s Street, outside Poundland, Derbion) for the start of the Derby Season of Light community lantern parade on Saturday November 13 ahead of the Derby Christmas Lights Switch-On event. Joining him onstage will be Smooth Radio’s breakfast show presenter Gareth Evans, cast members from this year’s Derby Arena pantomime Sleeping Beauty, and some unmissable local acts. The show starts at 3.30pm and ends at 6pm with the Christmas lights switch on, and a short fireworks display to mark the start of the city’s festive season.

This year Belper's festive season will start with the Mayor of Belper, Councillor Jamie Walls, switching on the town's lights just before 9pm. He is expected to be joined by Santa and his elves, with local shops and businesses being invited to stay open for late night Christmas shopping. More details can be found here. Dr Bruce Wiggins:Bruce completed his PhD at the University of Derby and has a research interest in audio signal processing and immersive audio. We’ll have a great outdoor family show for everyone to enjoy, and we’ll be bringing the community together in the way Derby does best. And the new location means everyone will get a better view of the lights when they are switched on. In 2022, leading loudspeaker company Meyer Sound partnered with the University to deliver online masterclasses and an in-person training course for our Entertainment Engineering students. As a student at Derby you'll also have access to full-length seminars on topics such as acoustics, loudspeakers, audio networking, spatial sound and audio fundamentals. Bolsover Christmas Festival and Lantern Parade will be taking place on Saturday, December 2. Smooth Radio’s breakfast show presenter Gareth Evans will present the show, which will also be attended by a BSL interpreter from Theatre Sign from 4pm onwards. Starting at 4pm on St Peters Cross Derby Lantern Parade, led by city-based South Asian arts organisation Surtal Arts, will make its way from along St Peters Street, Corn Market, and the Market Place before going down Tennent Street. More than 500 people of all ages and cultures are expected to join in the parade which will be headed by renowned drummers Dhol Frequency and Chinese Dragon dance performed by DANS Chinese Dance Troup. Be prepared to be enchanted as these talented performers and beautiful lanterns illuminate a path through Derby city centre and spread joy as we come together as ‘one’ for this city-wide celebration of Derby’s culture and local talent.As this is an engineering course, you will study 'how it works' – learning about the underlying mathematics and electronics in our electronics and computing laboratories. As Japanese nightingales soar and sing, the façade of the Guildhall Theatre will come alive with the beauty and vibrancy of Toyota City. Golden maple leaves will blend with Obara Washi paper, shared histories of weaving and manufacturing will play out, and the exchange of music, culture, education, business and sport across 25 years will be revealed. This project is part-funded by the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and the displays at the Guildhall Theatre will be free to attend. Air Arts is one of the key partners.
