Amber, Vermilion, Brown & Light Brown – Good all round colours for most light including mixed weather / variable conditions; they add contrast and make the field of vision appear sharper. Extremely lightweight for all day wear. Perfect for when out shooting clay targets, game or air rifle targets in your garden. Evolution Shooting Glasses Features In the UK it is compulsory to wear eyewear at CPSA registered shoots and almost all shooting schools/grounds. Even many clubs strongly advise that eyewear is worn. Eyewear lenses for shooting should be made from polycarbonate or Trivex as both materials provide a very high level of impact protection whether from a stray or falling pellet but more likely a shard of broken clay. We have just launched our new top of the range Magnex Shooting Eyewear – an interchangeable set featuring a magnetic lens changing system – lenses can be changed “instantly” and effortlessly in about 5 seconds. Over a year in development and manufactured exclusively for us, the new Magnex is available with up to 5 lens colours (Brown, Yellow, Orange, Purple & Rose).

Grey – Reduces all light equally (dulls light) and does not increase contrast. Best used in bright sun / bright light conditions and when shooting directly into the sun. Amber, Vermilion, Brown & Light Brown – Good all round colours for most light including variable conditions, they increase contrast and make the field of vision appear sharper.Clear – For protecting eyes from clay impact, dust, dirt or abrasion. Good for shooting in woods. Popular with practical shotgun enthusiasts and pistol shooters. Another important and often overlooked factor is that good quality UKCA/CE marked eyewear will be UV400 rated providing maximum protection from harmful solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR). Long term exposure to UVR can damage eyesight, potentially causing serious eye health issues such as cataracts, cancer of the eyelids and macular degeneration. The lenses are impact-resistant and shatterproof polycarbonate (complying with EN166F, which is the European certification for eye protection) and are also UV400, which is the maximum for UVR protection. They have more technical coatings than the Forth Road Bridge has layers of paint! The oleophobic and hydrophobic lens coatings give an invisible film which protects the lens surface and makes them water and oil repellent, as well as resisting smudges and fingerprints. A superior hard coating on the lens front protects the surface from scratches and abrasion, and on the rear of the lens is an anti-fog coating to prevent misting, which I found to be effective. Another important and often overlooked factor is that good quality CE marked eyewear will be UV400 rated providing maximum protection from harmful solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR). Long term exposure to UVR can damage eyesight, accelerate the development of a cataract and potentially cause other serious issues like cancer of the eyelids. Evolution Marix interchangeable shooting glasses come supplied with 4 different coloured lenses. This shooting set includes Dark Grey (Cat 3), Yellow (Cat 0), Orange (Cat 1) and Purple (Cat 2). Furthermore the Dark Grey lenses have a 10% VLT (visible light transmision) which are ideal for when shooting at targets in to the sun.

Shooting eyewear should either be rimless / frameless or designed to sit high so the top of the frame / lens doesn’t interfere with vision. Some have adjustable nose pads so they can be made to sit higher on the face. Overcast & mixed weather: Orange, Light Brown & Purple lenses. All 3 are good all-round colours able to copy with most weather conditions. Grey – Reduces all light equally (dulls light), does not add contrast and best used in bright sun / bright light conditions and when shooting directly into the sun. The Matrix shooting glasses are rimless, which means there is no frame or bridge to obscure your vision. A 10 base curve offers maximum eye protection. Each lens have Hydrophobic and Oleophobic coatings to repel water, dust, oil, fingerprints and dirt. Also featuring anti scratch coatings. The impact resistant, shatterproof polycarboate lenses comply with EN166 and are UV400 rated. These Class 1 optical grade, UV400 rated lenses attach to the frame with non-visible magnets. The frame is made from lightweight but super strong TR90 nylon with temples that flex for comfort. The nose piece is fully adjustable and can raise the frame by 5mm. The proprietary ‘Bhive’ PC lens material provides superior clarity and high chemical resistance (compared to standard polycarbonate lenses) along with high velocity impact protection that exceeds the requirements of ANZI Z87.1 & EN166F. The large, full wrap lens provides total eye protection and additionally they have a multi-feature coating that is scratch resistant and repels rain, spray, water spots, grease, smudging and fingerprints. Clear – For protecting eyes from pellet/clay impact, dust, dirt or abrasion. Good for shooting in woods. Popular with practical shotgun enthusiasts and pistol shooters. Purchasing a pair of shooting glasses can be an absolute minefield for shooters, with a dizzying array of choice on offer. When it comes to looking after the mince pies, I see a lot of shooters struggling to make their mind up on which model and specification to go with. Shooting glasses have evolved over the years and there are some great products on the market with a range of capabilities, functionality and good looks to boot. Smoke–‘Smoke’ is used as the lens base colour when a mirror finish is applied to the lens. It is similar to grey but can have a brown or blue hue.
