As interesting at the premise is, the book failed to capture my attention as well as having little to no character development for Mare. Literally, the first 2/3rds of the book was filler and the last bit was rushed action. Aside from that, nothing else happened. Just talking and talking and talking and descriptions and more talking and more talking and *snore*

Cameron and the Scarlet Guard make plans to put their first assault into action at a place called Corvium. Cal does not think that they can succeed against the fortress. Family Time: Mare and crew land at a base in Piedmont, operated by the Scarlet Guard and citizens of the Free Republic of Montfort, including Premier Dane Davidson. She is finally reunited with the Barrows and learns that Sara Skonos healed her father, regrowing his legs and lungs, and we would be lying if we said this family reunion didn’t make us shed a tear. Oh, and just in case life couldn’t get any better for the Barrows (again, relatively speaking…) Farley gives birth to her and Shade’s baby and names her Clara! Two princes from Piedmont, one of Maven’s ally cities, pays a visit. They question Mare about the Scarlet Guard and if they are in Piedmont. They also ask if Mare knows where their missing prince and princess are. Kilorn is there. At least he didn't have a big role in this book and we didn't see much of him. I still want him to die. He better die in the next book.In the center is a two-and-a-half feet high pedestal. [45] it has a smooth top, with grooved designs in the sides that spiral from the ground to the top. [46] It has three concave openings in a triangular formation on top. When three glowing pearls are placed in the holes the groove fills with light and the door open. I could try to write a review of this entire book, but let's be honest, I read it for Maven and I don't have the heart to write everything up because I'm in mourning for a ship that will never sail. After the battle, the coalition gathers to discuss their next steps. Anabel informs Cal that he is being made King of Norta. Evangeline hopes that Mare's temper will ruin the alliance so that she does not have to marry Cal. Cal gives a speech about changing the ways of the kingdom and giving Reds more equality and freedom. The Silvers pretend to support him. While he hesitates, Cal still accepts the throne he was born and raised to want. Both Evangeline and Mare are devastated by this decision. Maven Maven Maven. Maven. My little Darkling copycat. (Who am I kidding, no villain can top the Darkling.) Throughout King's Cage, we get more insight on Maven and his plans to rule Norta. During Mare's captivity, we find out that Elara had manipulated Maven throughout most of his childhood to make him a perfect prince. Doing so, she also altered his feelings of Cal and his father. Maven says he loved them before, but that it's gone. It kind of made me sad to see him be reduced to this because of his mother. I'm not saying he's a good character, but he's been manipulated to be a villain. Thank God Elara is dead. Even so, he still hasn't changed. And it's clear that he's in love with Mare. Even Mare herself was confused by Maven and his feelings. Clearly, she doesn't like him, but there's something in her that wants to be close to him. Or rather, close to who he was before. Seeing how he is in the end, I doubt he'll get a good ending.

Mare’s family wants her to leave with them and get away from this war. She says she can’t. Cameron decides to stay around to defend and help how she can, but she doesn’t want to fight and become a monster. And then, just when I thought we were done with the awkward scenes...we reach... The SEXY mud-makeout. From the entrance the tunnel is steadily descending pathway, seven-foot high, six feet wide. [8] The right tunnel continues to drop down. Eventually on the right side of the tunnel, there is an four sided needle like obelisk that emerges from the ground, rising up about 15 feet. King Cage Mini Thing Cage vs. Manything Cage

There seems to be this growing fury and vindictive agenda of women writers pitting themselves against male writers, especially if the men catch a break. Why do that to people who don’t know you and have no idea who you are and have worked probably just as hard for their big break? If there are showrunners like Shonda Rhimes then there’s no excuse why no one else can be like her. And FYI, maybe there’d be more things like female producers and directors if they didn’t keep immaturely dropping out of Hollywood over “creative differences”. I'm not a fool, little lightning girl. If you're going to play in my head, I'm going to play in yours. It's what we're good at." It annoys me how she is this special snowflake of a character. There are other people out there who can manipulate lightning but she's the strongest one??? I hate it when characters appoint someone the face of a rebellion just because their power is either strong or they are different. Mare isn't the face of a rebellion. She doesn't even deserve that rank.
