For what it lost in the low end, it more than made up for in having the most natural and beautiful sounding vocal presentation of any of the pressings. This pressing has great dynamics, and while I hear a couple instances of sibilance, there's no way I'd play big bucks for an audiophile upgrade when this sounds so damn good. Every song of the LP, excluding "The Lady In My Life", either charted in the Billboard Top 100 or was issued as an A-side or B-side on 45 RPM singles. The bass is rich and deep, the drums kick you in the chest, and the clarity of the production really shines.

I also have a 1982 US pressing and while this Japanese press doesn't blow it out of the water, it is noticeably better, even to my layman's ears.

Forget MoFi and their not-so-great mastering, I don’t care if it’s DSD or AAA, they royally miss the mark these days. There’s simply no reason not to have this in your collection unless you don’t like music, history or great sounding vinyl. to be included in the album -anecdotally, noting that he wanted to put it Not My Lover as a title-, and he believed that the opening of the song was too long. Another world record in possession of 'Thriller' lies in having remained at number one on the charts for two consecutive years (1983 and 1984, respectively), a feat never emulated to date. I must mention, apart from the others, Baby Be Mine and The Lady in My Life -where we discover a romantic Michael interpreting the song with a magnificent sensuality and intensity almost never seen formerly by him-.

I'm curious where is the actual reference to "Mastered By – Bernie Grundman" anywhere on this record. I have owned literally dozens and dozens of copies of Thriller from all over the globe - UK, Holland, US, JP, Brazil, MoFi etc. Although Quincy was convinced that the new material did not have any opportunity to surpass the achievement of 'Off the Wall' -because he thought that the music industry was in crisis-, all negative expectations around 'Thriller' were dashed, becoming this album, thanks to the superb work of Quincy and Michael, the best selling of all time (a privilege that still retains), selling among 50-60 million records in the world, reaching the hundred -depending on different estimates-.When you spend that much money on a record you expect something special and that's what you have here. I already loved Thriller, but this pressing makes me want to spin it even more than usual, just because the sound quality is that good.

I love the sound of this LP, but the quality of this pressing is incredibly bad - no quality control at all. I mean, is it a previous Thriller edition with a new packaging and just new additions (hype sticker and slipmate)? Release is housed in a cardboard slip case, and includes fold out poster (that largely replicates the original art except for the addition of the Original Master Recording® banner and some credit updates), lyric sheet, MoFi Archival Master sleeve, and white cardboard insert. Mastered by Krieg Wunderlich, assisted by Shawn R Britton at Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab®, Sebastopol, CA on The Gain 2 Ultra Analog System™. For what I heard MOFI reissue changed the whole concept and master it as if it were an audiophile recording.Thriller', the sixth studio album in MJ's solo career, was recorded between April and November 1982, being finally released on 8 November of the same year. I know this pressing does not beat an original or Mofi pressing, but i still think it's a really good reissue. While I don't think that this Hong Kong press manages to completely eliminate the vocal distortion like the Mastersound does, it is, in my opinion, absolutely better than the US and JP 1st presses. The pressing, known as the One-Step process, and invented by the Mobile Fidelity Recording Lab, limits the number of times vinyl copies can be made from the original master tapes.
