Description

The book has very simple rhymes like “The cat from France likes to sing and dance, the cat from Greece joined the police” these are repeated throughout the book. Cats get comfort and security from enclosed spaces, which is why they love spending time in cardboard boxes. The book itself consists of descriptions of other cats from other countries, all followed by the phrase "but my cat likes to hide in boxes". The book seemed old fashioned compared to newer story's, but it was stimulating and age appropriate for that group.

Pick and mix your very own bespoke guided reading collection matched to your school’s requirements and children’s book tastes! My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes is a children’s rhyming book by Eve Sutton and Illustrated by Lynley Dodd. Cats from many different countries may like to do all kinds of strange and exotic things like fly aeroplanes, or sing and dance, or even play the violin but this cat, an ordinary round-the-house cat, likes to hide in boxes.

The ideal temperature for cats to be comfortable is around 37 °C, so being warm is very important for your feline. The opinions expressed are mine and no monetary compensation was offered to me by the author or publisher. Cats from many different countries may like to do all kinds of strange and exotic things like fly aeroplanes, or sing and dance, or even play the violin - but my cat, an ordinary round-the-house cat, likes to hide in boxes . This mum made the puppets with her children and then used them to act out the story and popped the cats out of boxes!

My teacher read this to our class in year two and then we performed it as a kind of play, each child dressed up as one of the cats. Not only is cardboard an amazing insulator, but the small space that boxes offer encourages your cat to curl up and relax, making it a comfy, warm space.

Her first Hairy Maclary book was published in 1983 and her subsequent stories have become firm favourites.

Other favourite authors included A A Milne and the fairy tales of The Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen.Lynley Dodd is New Zealand's bestselling children's author/illustrator and has an international following.

These two qualities of art work very well together in this piece to make the reader know that this really doesn’t happen. At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. for its simplistic rhyming while showing cute drawings of cats from around the world doing various tasks. To your cat, a plain old box makes a really interesting and fun toy that can keep them entertained for days on end.I wonder whether with older children you could try writing postcards together and sending them to the cats.
