Description

In this volume it is a collected from the series Born to Run and added with two annuals, one special and a few more issues of The Flash.

In October 2018, Waid joined Humanoids Publishing as Director of Creative Development before being promoted to Publisher in February 2020. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). As this latest collection of Flash tales written by Mark Waid begins, meet Walter West, a Flash from a parallel reality where his beloved Linda Park died and the speedster doles out brutal justice to criminals as a response. You're going to have to power through the two specials if you don't like 70s/80s style superhero comics, but once you get through them, it's really well-crafted modern storytelling without the Gotham grime or the Vertigo "edge". In 2014, Waid launched new series for Daredevil and The Hulk with artists Chris Samnee [56] and Mark Bagley [57] respectively. From a narrative standpoint, it fleshes out the universe and history of the Flash as well as their personalities in ways that was perhaps unprecedented at the time, when the Flash is seen as nothing more than ” a good boy with fast legs”, and his rogues’ gallery as nothing more than gimmicks. The best parts of this arc though, was watching Wally travel across the future on his way back home. Grant Morrison and Mark Millar also wrote a few issues of the Flash during that time and DC is releasing a trade in April, although it takes place in the middle of Waid's run and I'm not sure if it's a good place to start.

In April 2023, it was announced that Waid would be writing two new projects for DC set to launch in July 2023. The first problem is that Jesse shows up in the story an issue or two before and has little to no development. However, Waid deliver brilliantly with a story that updates but still respects Wally's silver age origin but also gives Wally's character some depth. With the threat of Kobra looming over Keystone City, it will take the entire Flash family to overcome this battle. At one point in Terminal Velocity, Jesse Quick is announced seemingly out of nowhere to be the new Flash as Wally claims to be stepping down. It was in this arc where he expanded on Wally's origins and really fleshed out his character and personality.

A trip to the 64th century also proves eye-opening for Wally, as he is shocked to find out that in the future he is worshipped as a god! He's standing in front of a similar cabinet, hearing from the Flash how his accident happened, and bam, same thing! You should definitely read William Messner-Loebs' run before Waid's though, it creates many of the developments that Waid would work on later (although quite frankly, Messner-Loebs explored some of them in a much better way). It is clear that Wally and Linda Park are the focus of the story, but one bump in the road really annoyed me. In this first volume of a new series, Young Wally West is quickly in danger—not only from The Flash's enemies, but from powers that he doesn't know how to control!IMPULSE, which was also by Waid, was tons of fun and for a while it was my favorite book being published. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real. This coming June, both The Flash and Wonder Woman ongoing series will hit their landmark 800th issues. While mostly solid, there was one issue with an artist trying their best to imitate Rob Liefield (barf!
