I was greatly surprised to find this book was brilliant. Its not just Custodes doing stuff, it's a great depiction of 40k Terra. After learning what horus heresy Terra was like, the author does a great job of comparing the two through only the barest knowledge his characters possess. The reader of course is able to fill in the blanks and see the greater decline the Imperium is in before the Indomitus Crusade. Watchers of the Throne is a series of Warhammer 40K novels by Chris Wright. They take place at roughly the same time as the game's "Gathering Storm" campaign, which advanced the plot of the setting. Currently, the series is comprised of:

No doubt there will be many White Scars stories to come, both in the Scouring and beyond, but I do like the idea of writing a complete narrative, with a beginning, middle and end, before the baton is passed on to someone else. In Warhammer 40,000, of course, we already have Robbie MacNiven’s brilliant White Scars stories, so I don’t think fans will be short of material. In terms of the Space Wolves, given my schedule, I’m not sure that I’ll be doing any more with them either, although I do have the long-postponed third book in my Warhammer 40,000 trilogy to attend to. (See below…) Sex for Solace: As Days of Blindness wear on, Tieron strikes up a romance with Anna-Murza Jek to cope with the stress. They break it off once the immediate crisis passes. The actual name for the Sisters of Silence is Anathema Psykana. And at least one think Sisters of Silence is a really stupid name.

The silent sister was my least favourite narrator, her journey is more to aid the progress and provide a different perspective which is all good, but she's constantly angry to the point where it just seems like it should stop now. The next is about "what is unknown" and what he didn't get a chance to explain, like what his intentions of the Imperium as it currently stands. Fallen Hero: Underplayed; the leaders of the Splintered are various figures of authority on Terra, like administrators, cardinals, and Arbites leaders, who have used the turmoil on the planet for a power grab when they should've been the planet's first line of defense.

Just Toying with Them: Discussed in The Regent's Shadow: as Valerian fights his first Primaris Space Marine, he notes that he really wishes he could toy with the newcomer for a while to figure out his capabilities, but alas, circumstances mean he must go all out and Curb Stomp him. Tieron binds aspects of these stories together, as he tries desperately to muster and release the institutions which might give humanity a fighting chance. He is a very human character, relatable in his flaws and his failings, yet also admirable for his supreme commitment to the idea of the Imperium rather than its floundering realities. And the Adventure Continues: The Regent's Shadow ends with Valerian pursuing Lachrymosa, the last surviving Splintered leader, beyond the Sol System. Great Offscreen War: While the story is largely a political drama, there are no less than four different conflicts mentioned as happening offscreen. Canon Immigrant: Aleya and Valoris were eventually made into miniatures in the Warhammer 40K tabletop game, with rules that preserve their Bash Siblings dynamic.Overly Long Name: As the Custodes are awarded new names for various achievements both in and out of combat, most seasoned Custodians have dozens, if not hundreds of them. Valoris is said to have at least a thousand.
