Worse, the system he's assigned to is corrupt and on the verge of all-out civil war with the Alliance.

An inspirational true story of how an abandoned baby made a success of his life, truly " against all odds'' he was smart enough to work out how to survive these institutional bullies . Britt learned that a "submarine torpedo [had] hit our transport standing off shore and all our equipment went down with it. Pirates, smugglers, and Caliphate spies complicate the situation, and one captain with an old ship can't enforce the law, let alone stop anyone. The sacrifices made by this “greatest generation” are really brought out in Kershaw’s narrative and Americans should be grateful that we had men such as these who stepped forward in this hour of greatest need in the 20th century. From the Napoleonic Wars to Korea, Bryan Perrett has found a further 13 dramatic military actions where a few fought against many, often with unbelievable success. A lot of repetition, being told the same thing 30 times often just two paragraphs later, started to drive me mad after a while, and often made me consider stopping reading to the end. I almost stopped at this book because his portrayal of Muslims was so Islamaphobic, sadly I can't say that was really the worst part. A thought provoking book and hopefully things will get better in the future for any of these unfortunate children that get taken into care .

In another section of the book he talks about going to night classes to learn English, and refers to others in the class as ‘real retards’. Paul Connolly was abandoned as a baby and wound up in an awful children's home, where all the children suffered some level of abuse. Many of Britt's fellow invaders carried American flags, figuring the French would be less likely to fire on US troops. In October 1911 Walter was transferred to Northampton Town Football Club, where he would go on to play over one hundred first team games, before the First World War brought a premature end to his career as a professional footballer. Then Kershaw continues the story with happened to these men after the war, and here the story moves from heroics to somewhat of a tragedy. Kate is dedicated to her four adult children, but grows frustrated with their choice of partners that are seemingly not right for them. In Against All Odds, the renowned master of the battle narrative takes us right into the most perilous action in North Africa; Sicily, Italy; and France alongside Maurice Britt, Michael Daly, Audie Murphy, and Keith Ware, heroes all.

Kate Madison’s stylish boutique has been a big success in New York, supporting her and her four kids since her husband’s untimely death. Having survived the most intense combat of WWII against all odds, this extraordinary brotherhood would fight just as hard to find peace.During that time, enrolled members of the Osage Indian nation were among the wealthiest people per capita in the world. Abandoned as a baby, Connolly spent his childhood in St Leonards Children's Home in East London, a cesspit of mental and physical abuse. Paul has finally found peace and fulfilment beyond anything he could have imagined all those years ago.

Berkot does a brilliant job, and this is easily one of those times where it is much better listening to the Audiobook as you get so much more out of it as the Narration was so good!

As the author describes their engagements that won them so many combat citations, it is remarkable that any of them survived the particular clash that eventually earned all of them the Medal of Honor, America's highest military award, as well as multiple awards of other combat medals as well. It shines a light on the inherent relationship between football and socio-political climates, making it not only a comprehensive history but a must-have companion to the 2022 World Cup.
