The good news is we are here to put an end to all your queries and questions once and for all. In this article, you will finally find the information you need when considering buying any of these two guitar overdrives. The mods here turn this into more of lead style gain machine really. I like the Gain up quite high - and then I can punch in an even more saturated Boost on top of that! If you don’t set the two gain circuits diligently it can almost sound as if there is no change when you apply the boost - it typically works best with the 2 Boost controls maxed - and then your default level is set to your preferred starting settings. Delivering such a bold overdrive sound, the Boss OD-3 Overdrive pedal adds real presence for all playing styles. Nigh on endless sustain is also provided by the Boss OD-3 OverDrive pedal so your tone really sings. Great for All Styles

Note that the second ’Drive’ channel here is actually an additive ’Boost’ - which cannot be deployed independently - it always adds a Boost on top of whatever the current Drive settings are - so it’s best though of as a Solo / Boost switch. That second Footswitch essentially toggles the Boost On and Off - so you flip visible between Blue and Red LED’s. I would have though it made more sense for the Red LED to light up in addition to the Blue - which would have made its function more obvious - but no the LED’s alternate depending on which mode is engaged. There’s so many cool Modded Boss pedals out there - maybe it’s time for a Boss Custom Shop - to roll out these sorts of more specialist pedals. By turning down the drive knob and cranking up the volume you can use the OD-3 as booster and sustainer too add a creamy component to your amps overdrive. I use it with volume at 10, drive at 2.5 and tone at 4: With a clean amp sound I get a nice blues tone, with my amp distorted the Boss is a booster for my solo sound. In the original circuit, two 220K resistors (R36 & R49) bias Q2's gate at 1/2 Vcc. But the circuit has Vref, a clean source of 1/2 Vcc, so I used that instead. Saved one resistor.Another term that you may come across is fuzz, a special type of distortion consisting of harmonic tones that dominate the overall sound. The Boss OD-3 features a dual-stage overdrive circuit that offers a great level of sustainability which remains unmatched by almost all other overdrive panels. For the born again tone junkie, this might get you out of some of the many online support groups in your chase for a dynamic, natural sounding overdrive that has more transparency than it does color. The tone achievable with the three simple knobs, sans diode switches or vintage/modern modes is fantastic and rivals many of the independent offerings we have all spent hard earned money on for that Holy Grail end all pedal, only to still be left asking…"did I get a lemon?"

The frequency response is also just as good since it is smooth and pleasant. The guitar’s tone and natural frequencies can be modified and brought within a good range and tonal characteristics. They decided it could be used with some amps and other instruments and be the next big thing. Boss OD- The Features and Specifications Compared with the symmetrical clipping of the Tubescreamer, the Boss SD-1 Overdrive has greater volume and a more dominant presence. With the active TREBLE control, I didn't need the passive TONE control any more, so that got tossed overboard.

Despite its controls being kept simple with just level, tone and drive knobs, the Boss OD-3 OverDrive pedal is extremely versatile. The Boss OD-3 is a good option since you only need to connect it to the guitar’s input connection and connect the output connection to the amplifier’s input for it to start working. I feel that for this pedal - the use of clear knobs is an inspired choice. I will probably be looking to snag a Twin Drive BD-2 next, then Twin Drive DS-1, and finally a Twin Drive MT-2 - sort of as a treat every few months or so. If you want to add some color and slight noise to your sound, opt for the Boss SD-1 Overdrive. It will also provide you with grit and a kind of brilliance you only expect from premium-quality overdrives. You will also notice that the range and level of focus of the Boss SD-1 Overdrive significantly contribute to the sound quality as it balances it out.

If you're currently looking for your first overdrive pedal, I would say stop here at the Boss OD-3.

Warranty Info

Overall, the Boss OD-3 has a wide range of frequencies despite its somewhat simple and common design and features. Moreover, it also allows the user to set the response they want and adjust the guitar’s darkness and brightness. Boss SD-1 Overdrive Using the TONE knob you add that extra edge you might need to cut through any mix. Legendary Boss Pedal Build Quality The Boss OD-3 takes a normal guitar signal and amplifies it to the clipping point, and then clips this signal even further with its diodes (depending on the playing dynamics and gain setting). The fuzziness and thinness reported with DS-1 can be eliminated by using the Boss SD-1 Overdrive by keeping its pedal on always. This way, you get a smooth tube crunch sound with a pleasant effect overall.
