For this, I placed marigolds inside a slug collar and put some freshly collected slugs and snails around it. Furthermore, it is advantageous if one uses yogurt cups, to not completely tear off their closure, so they can be closed again if necessary. This is a natural and organic way to kill slugs. There are all kinds of nematodes, which are tiny little creatures that live in your soil, some of these nematodes kill slugs. Snails hibernate over autumn and winter, often under small, covered places in your garden like stones, logs and pots, whilst slugs are active all year-round.

These reusable plastic collars are designed to create a barrier that keeps slugs away from your plants, while also providing protection from physical damage such as wind. The specific angles of the slug collar means the slug cannot climb over it, and so cannot access your plant. This acts as a physical barrier. Perhaps their biggest advantage is that it is possible to combine them with garden cloches and mosquito nets. This is best done on a damp night after heavy rain as then the slugs will be everywhere, happy hunting! Slug Traps Slug Beer TrapAnd then there is the mess they leave, lots of dead slugs on the surface of your garden with nasty trails everywhere. Nematodes These edges are difficult to overcome for slugs, as they are too sharp for the animals to climb around the corner. These two agents are versatile in their use against snails and can easily be connected with other ideas. The problem: Slugs and snails are common pests of many plants. Almost impossible to eradicate from an area, instead use Slug collars to simply protect the plants which need it.

This can be effective but takes high quantities of salt, and salt can also cause damage to your garden, such as making the soil unplantable or damaging surfaces like wood. Unfortunately, these homemade models are usually less effective because their edges are not wide enough. Then the plants are protected not only from slugs but also, for example, from the cabbage white butterfly and similar pests. The idea behind these barriers is that they stop the slugs from being able to crawl over them. Slugs apparently will not go over a 90-degree angle, you can look it up on YouTube, a few people have tested the theory and it seems to hold.Since land snails and slugs cannot swim and drown underwater, one can use gutters to create a trench around the beds. Due to the vigorous growing nature of Calibrachoa if they survive the seedling stage then slugs will no longer be a problem, they will simply outgrow any damage.
