Pan’s Labyrinth was amazing. Special effects and fantasy are used for more than just pretty pictures. The book may appeal to serious Bond fans, but for students who are looking for mystery and adventure, Anthony Horowitz's "Alex Rider" books (Philomel) are a better choice.-Angela M. Boccuzzi-Reichert Charmian is James’s aunt and has been responsible for his upbringing since the death of his parents. She’s a strong, independent woman and she believes wholeheartedly in treating children as adults.

Penguin Readers is an ELT graded reader series. Please note that the eBook edition does NOT include access to the audio edition and digital book. Written for learners of English as a foreign language, each title includes carefully adapted text, new illustrations and language learning exercises. During a scene at a circus the announcer presents "The Mighty Donovan". "The Mighty O'Donovan" is Donovan "Red" Grant's father, referenced in From Russia, with Love. The Bond girl in this book is Wilder Lawless, a girl who owns a horse called Martini. This girl helps James and 'Red' Kelly (named on account of his red hair) figure out why Kelly's cousin was killed and she helps them to defeat Lord Hellebore. In this book James learns to drive, taught by his Uncle Max, who, while he is away at Lord Hellebore's castle sadly dies. His Aunt Charmain who thinks James and Kelly are away on a camping trip tells James this as he wakes up from his coma. What is unexpected about this James Bond prequel is that its hero is so ordinary.....With careful between the wars detail and clear prose, it reads rather like a well written manual, even when the dangers escalate and a mad, Mendel admiring millionaire threatens James's life and the future of the world, which is more the sort of action we expect. In 2004, it was announced that Higson would pen a series of James Bond novels, aimed at younger readers and concentrating on the character's school-days at Eton. Higson was himself educated at Sevenoaks School where he was a contemporary of Jonathan Evans, current Director General of MI5. The first novel, SilverFin, was released on 3 March 2005 in the UK and on 27 April 2005 in the U.S. A second novel, Blood Fever, was released on 5 January 2006 in the UK and 1 June in the U.S. The third novel, Double or Die, was published on 4 January 2007 having had its title announced the day before. The next, Hurricane Gold, came out in hardcover in the UK in September 2007.[3:]In this year he also made a debut performance on the panel show QI. His final Young Bond novel, By Royal Command, was released in hardcover in the UK on the 3 September 2008.[4:]Randolph’s twin brother, Algar has been made physically monstrous by the SilverFin serum. It is Algar, however, rather than Randolph, who has retained his sense of mercy and compassion. Bond travels to Scotland to visit his aunt and dying uncle. Along the way, he meets a boy named Jimmy who is searching for his missing cousin, and James offers his help. In Scotland, his uncle warns him—based on personal experience—never to become a spy. Ironically, James and his new friend, Jimmy, soon stumble upon Hellebore’s mysterious castle while searching for the missing cousin. They investigate and uncover some frightening clues about Hellebore's true self. The two boys also find that George has realized his father’s treachery and wants to put a stop to it. Together, they meet Hellebore face-to-face, discover that he is more of a monster than they imagined, and put up a vicious fight. Lord Hellebore arrives at Eton to fund and stage a three-part athletic tournament, which he intends his son, George, to win. The competition has three heats: swimming, running, and shooting. Lord Hellebore helps George cheat in various events, particularly the foot race, where he plans shortcuts for his son. James, noticing that George has an alternate route, follows him, using his speed to overtake him and win the race. George tries to trip James but fails. Ultimately, Andrew Carlton, another student is the winner of the tournament, which deeply disappoints Lord Hellebore. o APA citation: Higgson, H. & Walker, K. (2008). Bond makes a friend at school - all we know about him is that he is smart, nice, a bit pudgy and from India. What else about his schooling at Eton? There seem to be a lot of ... I wouldn't even say the plot is particularly Bond-like. The mystery that unfolds is pretty out there, belonging more in the Hellboy universe than the Bond pantheon. There are also no real twists or surprises, no late-game reveals. It just kind of... moves forward. The Young Bond books have, to date, sold over a million copies in the UK and been translated into 24 different languages. The Young Bond titles are included in a recent list of books complied by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the School Libraries Association to encourage school boys to read (www.boysintobooks.co.uk).
