A group of businessmen and friends of a Gastronomic Society from the Basque country used to come to La Rioja on holiday together, and decided to produce their own wines to go with the local cuisine. Beronia was founded in 1973 by a group of friends with a passion for fine food and the shared desire to create wines worthy of pairing with their culinary creations at their local “txoko” (gastronomic society club).All of the vineyards are located less than 10 kilometers from the winery, and the age of the vines are between 20 and 100 years.

Nearly every red wine from Rioja and the Ribero del Duero uses Tempranillo as the heart of their blended wines, and in Portugal, as Tinto Roriz, it is a key component of the fortified Port blend. The fruit-driven palate is balanced with smooth tannins, good acidity and a touch of vanilla and cinnamon coming from the 6 months aging in oak barrels. Over eighteen months in mixed French and American oak barrels, the wine gradually develops its trademark smoothness and complexity, furthered by spending eighteen months in bottle prior to release.
