For example when dad bear has the TV on, the small bear cannot hear the tv but can see the man in a blue bodysuit skiing fast down a slope. Antrobus and Dunbar have created a lovely book to show children what it is like to be hard of hearing. I chose this book to read to my young readers not because any of them are hearing impaired but because two of them live with grandparents whose hearing is not as good as it once was.

I was applauding Dad Bear and Teacher Bear throughout for taking cues from Little Bear that he might be struggling to hear. The story is also a mirror for deaf children and their families and I know from my own autistic son and dyslexic daughter how incredibly powerful it can be to feel seen in a story.
