Caracalla has more accents than most custodes, but I’ll go through an abbreviated method for all of them:

Mix Mournfang Brown with Lahmian Medium (80% Mournfang, 20% Medium) to create a wash. Wash the entire overcoat with this mix. Once dry, give it a light second coat. The robes are painted the same way as the red fists, and for this first Veteran I also added some heraldry to his badge in the quite simple form of a red stripe in the same colours and a skull from the Imperial Knights transfer sheet (the tiny Adeptus Titanicus version!) AT transfers are a good source for heraldry – Knights have a great variety of badges and a lot of the AT houses are unusual for 40k, so you can steal their iconography quite freely. I did the same for the other two Veterans. The shields are a fun place to play around with different things – I particularly like the Veteran with a night-sky kind of heraldry with a star at the top, and then the symbol of House Makabius re-purposed as his personal crest. Start the silver areas by painting any of the “machinery” with Vallejo Metal Color Magnesium, and any gun barrels or the metal areas on the lances with Iron Hands Steel. For Caracalla, my shield captain here, it is very important to note that I painted the cape separately, and glued it on after I was done. This entire process is a huge pain in the butt otherwise. The head was also painted separately. Repeat step 3 but with Citadel XV -88 highlighting less of the armour. You want your highlights to be hitting the raised parts and points of interest. There is a lot more of this on your jetbikes. Here only the gauntlets are leather. I used VMC Cavalry brown, making sure to avoid the red cloth on the underside of his forearms and the gold detailing. I then washed the leather with Agrax Earthshade. The Doombull Brown paint from Citadel Colour is a high-quality acrylic paint that is perfect for miniature painting. The paint has a smooth, pigmented formula that provides excellent coverage and a matt finish. It is a great foundation color for any miniature painting project, and is suitable for both beginners and experienced painters. The paint is part of Citadel’s extensive palette of colours for miniatures, and is a versatile color that can be used to paint a variety of surfaces and textures on miniatures, including skin, fur, and leather. What armies to paint with Doombull Brown Highlight almost all the gold with Scale 75 Dwarven Gold, leaving the Necro Gold in just the recesses.

Other than that, the way I painted them is the same as all my other Crimson Fists, as per one of our very earliest HTPEs and extracted below for convenience: I watered down Rhinox Hide heavily and then shaded around the eyes, nose, inbetween the fingers and around the face. Then using Rhinox Hide that hasn’t been watered down, paint the hat, forearm rag sleeves, bag, front boot, and logs on the base.I wanted to do my Custodes in NMM (Non metallic metal) but also wanted something I could replicate across a whole army without losing the will to live. After many hours of watching people wet blend / glaze etc I came up with this. It’s not the most realistic gold but I think it looks good and most importantly doesn’t take too long. People have described it as “cell shaded” which I like. The process is the same for vehicles or infantry, I just use an airbrush on the vehicles (but exactly the same colours and steps). The steps are quite repetitive and it looks a mess almost right until the end so keep persevering with it Golds

Necrons: The Necrons are a faction in the Warhammer 40K universe known for their metallic, ancient-looking armor and machinery. Doombull Brown paint would be perfect for creating a sense of age and patina on their metallic surfaces, as well as for highlighting details on their weapons and vehicles. Start with a base coat of Rhinox Hide, then we will use our reddish brown from the armor to highlight. This will give our army a cohesive color palette, as we end up using the same colors for different purposes. To finish the cloak I just highlighted Zandri Dust with Ushabiti Bone, lightly blending them together on a wet palette. The belt is Rhinox Hide, highlighted with Reaper Tanned Leather (another super useful paint with multiple uses).Consumed by bloodgreed, the Minotaurs lay waste to their prey in an orgy of slaughter, smashing through barricades and buildings alike to get at the still-living weaklings that cower within. The Doombull at the head of the horned army lowers his head and charges at full speed towards the leader of the enemy army, gouging his horns deep into the foe and maiming everything within reach with his axe. When all is laid to waste the Doombull gorges himself on the choicest of prey while his followers fight over the corpse-harvest at their feet. [1c] The Master of Mankind by Aaron Dembski-Bowden takes place during the Horus Heresy and gives you insight into the Emperor himself (and his finest creations). Although their numbers were greatly reduced during the Battle of the Webway during the Horus Heresy, the Legio Custodes now once again numbers ten thousand warriors, each dedicated to the protection of Terra. Since the return of Roboute Guilliman and his ascension to the role of Imperial Regent, they have lifted their self-imposed Edict of Restraint and once again begun crusading across the Imperium to bring swift death to the foes of mankind. They played a pivotal role in Guilliman’s battle against Magnus and the Thousand Sons on Luna, and in the defense of the Imperial palace. Such is their might that the Administratum has never recorded a single loss for the a battle that the Custodes have participated in. Use Agrax Earthshade to shade and change the colour of the areas painted in the previous stage (staff, feather, lower tunic and garment around the shoulders). Most P3 Paints do not match closely with the old GW range, but a detailed explanation of each paint can be found here: http://www.brushthralls.com/pre-painting-prep/color-theory-10p3.html
