Description

Mystery of History has done the work for you by providing supplemental activities in the companion guides for each lesson. You don’t need to revise it to meet your child’s learning level. The author also includes a timeline notebook as a convenience. In the early years when the kids were young, they absolutely loved the giant timeline we created on a foldable cardboard sewing cutting board! Then, as the kids grew to upper elementary ages, they preferred individual timelines, which we created in 3-ring binders or spiral notebooks. Then, they could draw their own pictures for each lesson or use the timeline figures.

Linda has one workshop specifically designed to promote her award-winning series, The Mystery of History . Using a two-fold approach, she not only shares the “how-to’s” of her program with a “week at a glance,” but she inspires her audience to appreciate history with a passionate overview of world events and a look at the Divine thread that pulls it all together. Geography: These lessons are built in to the Mystery of History companion guide. They are so valuable, especially when comparing ancient maps to modern maps. We believe that the Law of God is the eternal and unchangeable rule of His moral government; that it is holy, just, and good; and that the inability which the Scriptures ascribe to fallen men to fulfill its precepts, arises entirely from their love of sin: to deliver them from which, and to restore them through a Mediator to unfeigned obedience to the holy Law, is one great end of the Gospel, and of the Means of Grace connected with the establishment of the visible church. Middle school students could use it as a spine and jumping off into more research or reading or writing about the content. You could definitely use this curriculum to teach multiple ages together from K-8, requiring more analysis or written work from your older children.During the remainder of the week, my kids do “homework,” which includes additional research, reading one of the suggested books, and copywork While this is essentially a study of history, it is also a Bible study of sorts with an apologetic flavor in spots. Near the end of the Volume I: Student Reader is an adaptation of Campus Crusade’s booklet used for leading people to accept Christ. A letter to students at the beginning of that book directs students to it if they don’t already have a relationship with God. Volume II: The Early Church and the Middle Ages We believe that such only are real believers as endure unto the end; that their persevering attachment to Christ is the grand mark which distinguishes them from superficial professors; that a special Providence watches over their welfare; and they are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.

If you are teaching several different ages at once Mystery of History (or Sonlight) is an excellent choice. My favorite time of the homeschool day was when we learned together as a family. History was the easiest to combine ages. MOH companion guides make it simple. Read together and do the age level activities for each child or make the activities a group project. I enjoyed learning along with my children and I know you will too with Mystery of History. One of the best reasons to use The Mystery of History curriculum is that you can supplement the volumes with other great books for your children to read. Week 29: Lessons 85-87: Alexander the Great, The Divisions of Alexander’s Empire, Archimedes and the Lighthouse of Alexanderia These lessons are designed to be used by an instructor who has been through the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style seminar. If you want a more detailed look at all the components of Mystery of History, along with our top reasons for using it for so many years, then you’ll love our Mystery of History review. Video flip through of MOH Mystery of History has map work included each week and I am able to print out maps with both the printable resources and the folder book resource described above. I also have a few great books which I used with my older ones which are just too good not to use: In Berlin’s experience, professional archeologists tend to eschew the role of popular sleuth, especially as it pertains to things like Noah’s Ark and treasure-laden tombs. Nevertheless, she recognizes the sense of wonder such mysteries inspire. These are great for working on memorizing facts, reviewing for quizzes (if you do the quizzes, they are totally optional!), games, and more.
