After they leave the guidance room, Horikita begins to grill Kiyotaka with questions about his scores, to which Kiyotaka maintains that they are coincidences. They then discuss the issue with the class points and the upcoming midterms. Horikita requests the help of Kiyotaka to solve this issue and doesn't take no for an answer despite being denied several times. That goal is pretty boring considering the level of competition and capabilities of the students (since the top students know martial arts and all). Though it would be something if their goal is to be government spies, assassins and whatnot. An unnamed person speaks to the reader of the novel, asking them to think about the state of society. They then talk about equality in society, concluding in the end that equality does not exist. They go on to refer to a famous passage which states that learning creates imbalances in equality, emphasizing that the teaching remains the same, albeit in a more complex situation, in the modern era. Finally, the unknown person then speaks to the reader again, asking if they have given thought to the future. They finish by referencing their own experience from when they were in high school. The next day, Kiyotaka and Horikita go to the library to set up for the study session. Sudō, Ike, Yamauchi, Kushida, and Kyōsuke Okitani arrive to study. Almost immediately, it is apparent that the Idiot Trio are farther behind in their studies than was initially believed, and Horikita's harsh attitude discourages them from trying further. They begin arguing, which leads to the Idiot Trio losing interest in the study group despite Kushida's efforts. Everyone other than Kiyotaka, Horikita, and Kushida leave the study group. Horikita states that she's lost interest in teaching them further as she sees it as a hassle to teach them anything moving forward. Kushida is distraught about the outcome and leaves shortly after.

While the anime's fast pace masked these problems quite well, the shortcomings really do show up quite well in the book, especially when most of the leading characters really feel very misanthropic or lethargic at progressing with the plot. She's in love with her boy-bestfriend but it turns out in their marriage age, the one who is first to marry is her boy best friend and he is marrying her close friend. It may be too painful in her side, she felt betrayed but she has nothing to stop it, she accepted their marriage against her will of love. The students begin to quarrel among themselves about the truth of the point system and their status as the leftovers of the school. Kushida resolves a few conflicts among the students while Kiyotaka and Horikita discuss the events that transpired. After a while of talking, the conversation shifts to stopping the poor behaviours that lost the class points in the first place. The class begins to have a hostile attitude towards Sudō for his behaviour and uncooperative attitude since he doesn't agree to change his attitude. Hirata invites Kiyotaka and Horikita to discuss how to increase the class's points, but they both decline.
