Other grenade types are occasionally used on special missions but are generally restricted to the use of officers and squad leaders.

Because Shadow Masters is a bit underwhelming, it’s definitely worth considering Successor options here. Raven Guard’s excellent stratagem sheet heavily incentivises Deep Striking and melee, so natural options to look at are: You’ll have the choice of two fighters in the form of the Custodian Guard and Allarus Custodian datasheets, the profiles for which will rival all but the most powerful enemy Commanders! For their own Commander, the Adeptus Custodes can call upon a Shield-Captain, who is powerful enough to defeat any adversary with contemptuous ease. Even when wounded almost unto death, the lions of the Emperor are all but unstoppable. How are you going to paint (and properly shade and highlight) the white parts, such as helmets, guns, arms, and shoulder pads on veterans? Bladeguard Veterans are those Primaris Space Marines who have earned the right to serve in the elite 1st Company of a Primaris-only Chapter raised during the Ultima Founding or later, those who serve in the 1st Company of an already-extant Chapter alongside their Firstborn brethren, or those who are already Veteran Marines and have crossed the Rubicon Primaris. Bladeguard Veterans are melee-focussed Astartes who are equipped much like technologically-advanced versions of the knights of ancient Terran legends. They wear Mark X Tacticus Power Armour and are outfitted with Heavy Bolt Pistols, master-crafted Power Swords, Frag Grenades, Krak Grenades and Storm Shields. Unlike Dan’s guys, my Raven Guard are from the 2nd company. As such I’m painting their aquila and shoulder trim a golden yellow (actual gold also works but I don’t think it works as well on Raven Guard as it does Ultramarines). This is a coat of Averland Sunset highlighted up to and with Flash Gitz Yellow.

Also, Tau still exist and they absolute can kill 3000 points of marines without AOC. Likewise, while we’ve had the Astra Militarum book out and in limbo for a while, we’re already seeing what it can do and it’s only going to get better when killing marines gets easier. Yes, they lost the indirect fire buff but the new guard can put out insane amounts of firepower and kill our new, larger marine armies. This is equally true for the Special Weapon Trooper who may be chosen to carry one of the following weapons: Flamer, Meltagun or Plasma Gun. The Flamer is useful for clearing obstacles of enemy troops and can be especially deadly in confined areas. The Plasma Gun is a medium-range armour-piercing weapon useful against foes with a preponderance of body armour. The Meltagun is particularly effective against armoured vehicles although it has a very short range. Let’s move on to the good stuff – if you’re playing Raven Guard or one of their successors, the Stratagems are probably a big part of what you’re here for. There’s some very, very good stuff here. All of the battle-brothers and the sergeants of the 1st Company are Veterans, vastly experienced Space Marine warriors who have seen many combats and have survived them all. All of these Astartes would have been recruited from within the ranks of the Chapter's Battle and Reserve Companies. Variants of the Veteran tactical role icon worn on the right shoulder plate by Veteran Ultramarines.A Vanguard Veteran Squad is formed from those Space Marines of the Chapter's Veteran 1 st Company who have completely immersed themselves in the art of close-quarters combat. Most of them have served lengthy rotations in the Chapters' Assault Squads prior to their promotion, and their skills with chainsword and Combat Knife have been honed and tested in the crucible of bloody melee on a thousand war-torn worlds. Primaris Techmarine [5 PL, 100pts, -1CP]: Chapter Command: Master of the Forge, Forge bolter, Frag & Krak grenades, Grav-pistol, Mechadendrite, Omnissian power axe, Servo-arm, Stratagem: Hero of the Chapter, The Tome of Ectoclades, Warden of the Ancients You are reading the list right, I am rating Thunderwolf cavalry again. The list has 2 forward deploy options when needed, the cyberwolves are missiles you fire off to center for the first 2 turns to get your oaths of the moment as you wait for 1 of your terminator units to come in from reserve to then replace them on center. Your Thunderwolves are there to project threat and give your opponents something to consider at a much greater range. They add reach to an army that needs it early on in the game, now as to whether you actually want to follow through with the threat is a different story and I believe often times you will not. Just having them there to keep your opponents honest is good enough. Obviously, the LT with Combi-Weapon has a bunch of Tyranid crap all over him, so here’s what I did with that: The Heavy Bolter is an anti-personnel weapon with limited use against armoured troops or vehicles. The Lascannon is a potent anti-tank weapon with few war machines able to withstand its lancing beam. The Missile Launcher offers a multi-role use, able to load and fire various different types of missiles. Frag Missiles provide effective anti-infantry support, whereas Krak Missiles add a vital tank-busting capability to the squad.

It is of little surprise, therefore, that a Vanguard Veteran fights all the harder with such weapons in hand, not merely to survive the deadly cut and thrust of combat, but to honour both his battle gear's Machine Spirits and the memories of every Adeptus Astartes hero who wielded the same relics in past wars. Raven Guard have one more fantastic synergy, and that’s with Shrike. When he’s within 6″, they get to re-roll their Charge distance, and all their to-hit rolls. The only thing that’s a bit awkward is that you generally don’t get to use his Warlord Trait (can’t fire Overwatch against him) because it will generally pull him further than 6″ from your other Units if he Charges first.

Likewise Intercessor Veterans are those Veteran Primaris Marines who still make use of ranged weaponry unlike their more melee-focussed Bladeguard counterparts. They also wear Mark X Tacticus Power Armour but are outfitted with Bolt Pistols, Bolt Rifles, Frag Grenades, and Krak Grenades as standard. Additionally, they may choose to use Heavy Bolt Pistols, Auto Bolt Rifles, Stalker Bolt Rifles, an Astartes Grenade Launcher and chainswords. Combat Squads- Before any models are deployed at the start of the game, a 10-man Vanguard Veteran squad may be split into two units of 5 models. EL: Primaris Apothecary [5 PL, 105pts, -1CP]: Chapter Command: Chief Apothecary, Selfless Healer, Stratagem: Hero of the Chapter, The Crusader’s Helm This is what a mini will look like after the 1st round of basecoats and undercoats. There’s obviously a ways to go, but the scheme is definitely taking shape. This is the same mini after the 2nd basecoat step, where I work up the whites and reds.

Company Veterans form the fighting centre of the company Command Squad. They will often serve as the company captain's bodyguards, a small but elite strike force or a bulwark on the battlefield, ready to lead an offensive or shore up any flagging battle line.Next up I painted the metal bits with Leadbelcher and started highlighting the armor. This part is more tedious than challenging, as it requires edge highlighting the whole thing with Mechanicus Standard Grey. I only did one layer of edge highlights here but if you want to do more, a second layer of Celestra Grey on the corners and very top edges will brighten things and make it stand out a bit more. Every member of the 1 st Company is proficient in all manner of close assault weaponry. They carve apart their victims with humming Power Weapons, tear them asunder with mighty Power Fists, and gun them down with Bolt and Plasma Pistols. Of all the fighting formations that make up a Codex Astartes-compliant Space Marine Chapter, it is the 1 st Company which is most feared. For an Astartes to join the 1 st Company is for him to have won renown on battlefields uncounted and to have earned the respect of his Battle-Brothers through deeds of blood and honour. The deeds of one bold warrior can alter the course of a battle. I have four such men under my command, and our every deed changes the shape of the galaxy."
