Then there is the main villain in this book, who's been a strong and intimidating character all throughout the duology, but ends up disappearing from the story in the span of 3 pages. Each of the three Pirate Lords - the Allemos line, the Kalligan line, and the Serad line - were given a piece of an ancient map that lead to Isla de Canta. I will admit I love a sassy character, and Alosa could definitely give Celaena Sardothien a run for her money when it comes to wits and brutality.

She was just this brat that expects everything to fall in place perfectly just because she is the daughter of the pirate king. It was still super cool, funny and exciting, but now it had an even faster pacing and we get into more depth with the characters and relationships. I mean ofc not everyone died, i admit I am exaggerating but AT LEAST 10 PIRATES FROM ALOSA'S CREW DIED! Alosa really began to annoy me in this one- she can be so stubborn and arrogant at times which really annoyed me 🙄 and some of the decisions she made were definitely *questionable*.

In this book we get to see Alosa not as a prisoner, but as a pirate of her own ship, fierce as ever. Well, that might not be the case, and we learn alongside Alosa throughout the book that there’s so much more to him.

While Riden refuses to do things in half measures and will not be with Alosa if he cannot have all of her.The only reason I'm rating this less than The Shadows Between Us is because it got slightly predictable and cliched. After everything I said, if you couldn't tell, I have really strong feelings of hatred towards this book.

This book was a long setup for the final grand confrontation between Alosa and her father, but the ending feels rushed and everything was wrapped up way too quickly. And, once her elderly husband dies, she will have all the freedom, money, and safety she’s ever wanted. This book starts off with Alosa handing over the last piece of the map to her father and capturing Vordan who reveals something that Alosa can't quite wrap her head around, but it inevitably leads her to move against the pirate king, endangering not only her life but also that of her crew. Prepare yourselves for an action packed novel with a swoon worthy romance and secrets long since buried. Picking up where the first installment left off, we find Alosa back on her ship with the best crew in the business.

She's really tough and takes shit from nobody, but it's totally okay because she's also really funny. The adorable moments in this book make you want to squeal with happiness let it be the crew of the Ava-lee or Alosa and Riden. A rip-roaring high seas escapade with a tinge of fantasy, Daughter of the Pirate King will engage and enthrall its teen audience. Captain Draxen and his brother Riden thought they got lucky by capturing the pirate king's daughter. But instead of the women fleeing, screaming to get away, it was the men who shrieked until their heads disappeared below the water’s surface. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. I'm so happy to have found a new author to add to my "must read" list and cannot wait to see where she decides to take us on our next adventure with Alosa and her father, who happens to be The Pirate King.
