Description

Understanding past events and people and their significance gives students a better insight into the world around them. Beyond the run-round on that side will be one carriage siding and that's it, plus as most traffic into that side of the station will be DMU's, it shouldn't be a problem. to my mind gives it a more urban feel as though the railway was fitted in after most of the houses had been built, rather like the Saffron Street. The photographs were lost when the Free Press moved from its Rawtenstall office in 2009 office and were discovered being kept in a warehouse for a number of years before our nostalgia columnist Peter began his restoration project.

I went a bit mad with the glazing and cut each wi With this in mind I will send photos of the item to all overseas purchasers and won't dispatch until I have confirmation that you have seen it and okayed it, please ask for photographs of the item if you are not sure in UK. Anyway, I hope that these give a bit better idea of what the aim is, even if everything is at the same level at the moment. To finish it off, I added the decorative edging to the tops using two strips of microstrip; one overlaying the other. A HISTORIC archive of photographs capturing the Valley’s history has been saved - and viewed nearly 4 million times online. The various buildings in the background are left-overs from my last layout and in all likelyhood, will not find homes on this one.

So, below is a photo of my first ever 3 way turnout, very much work in progress and causing a lot of head scratching and readjustment. If you come on Easter Saturday for example, you will be hard pressed not to see our very own Brittannia Coconutters, a traditional dance troupe dating back to the 1850’s, steeped in local tradition and loved and well regarded throughout the town. What I have lost in size of goods yard should hopefully be made up for in operational (shunting) interest. Also, to determine the track plan, I had to know how wide the platforms would be and to do that, I had to know how wide the canopies would be. For many Americans, post-war prosperity realised the ‘American dream’ but the prosperity was not shared by all and significant problems at home and abroad challenged the extent to which the ‘American dream’ was a reality. The Festival’s main aim is to attract and expose visitors to the beauty, heritage and culture of Rossendale. Left out are the junction to the Rochdale line (assumed to be off-stage and still present, even though the period modelled is after the line closed), the engine shed and most of the sidings in the goods yard. Business has been carried out here for centuries, with the earliest traders dealing in woollen cloths and domestic flannels.

Until the very day of closure in 1966 trains ran every half an hour (every fifteen minutes on Saturdays) and was a well used line until the end. It took me four months to complete the station and I then decided to build my own point work which was a big old learning curve and took another four months to get (most of) them done and wired in. The Rossendale 60's Festival is Rossendale Valley wide and includes events in Rawtenstall, Bacup, Haslingden and Whitworth. I originally intended to use Peco Code 75 throughout but I knew that it would always annoy me that it doesn't look quite right so I have bitten the bullet and am making my own pointwork (in OO, so still not right. As such, I've started to build a row to replace the cafe, and these will start to climb the hill rather than remaining level (as the cafe row did for it's full 9 house length). Wasn't sure what to do with the side of the pub (as you can see, the real boozer is within a row rather than on the end) so I drew up a few ideas on paper and then went with the one that looked better. As part of the Star family, BRGS collaborates with other Star schools to share expertise and maximise opportunities and experiences for our students. only to block it from view) but from the normal operating position, the view that is provided will enable me to see the vast majority of the railway.

Once this was done (in two sections at that point as it is almost 3' long), I painted and weathered the underside as when the glazing, etc.In 2011, as a precursor to its centenary celebrations, the school marked 100 years since its foundation stones were laid. I did this because as there are so many large panes, if I had stuck the glazing on the inside, it would have shown up but with hindsight, I should have made the main sub-structure from clear plastikard and used overlays throughout.
