I thoroughly enjoyed this contemporary romance by debut author Jeannie Moon. The main characters, Meg Rossi and Jason Campbell, were both wonderful. I loved the way their relationship deepened and enjoyed the chemistry between them. The storyline flowed well, and I liked the way everything played out. I'm glad to have read this book, and will be awaiting more by the author. According to the USSD Bureau of Consular Affairs, evidence of a Baha’i marriage appears in the person’s shenasnameh in addition to other documents:

The practice of temporary marriage is connected to problematic issues including unregistered marriages and specially, child/early marriages in Iran, as young women have been reported to be one of most prominent groups who are negatively affected by temporary (and sometimes unregistered) marriage. Temporary marriage is, for instance, sometimes used to legitimize early marriage with the approval of the parents.’ [footnote 25] Even through years of separation and hate between their parents, the friendship between Meg and her best friend Grace, Jason’s sister, never wavered. So much so that Grace named Meg guardian of her one and only child Molly, should anything happen to her and her husband…. and it did. A car accident left Molly in Meg’s care, something that the elder Campbells are out to contest.

A Promise of Spring

A marriage of convinience isn't exactly Meg's ideal plan, but she ends up agreeing to it... and soon she finds herself in a strange relationship with the only guy she has ever truly loved.. In contemporary Twelver Shi’a Islam in Iran, temporary marriage stays a legal and religious conjugal union between an unmarried woman and a married or unmarried Muslim man (due to laws that sanction polygamy), which is contracted for a fixed time period in return for a set amount of money that the woman receives. The practice of temporary marriage is not only sanctioned, but also encouraged in Shi’i discourses. This is because any form of extramarital sexual relationship is prohibited by Islamic law and is culturally interdicted. Temporary marriage is, in this context, promoted as a halal alternative and an Islamically-sanctioned way to avoid premarital, extramarital and other “illegitimate” sexual relationships.’ [footnote 24] I found this by chance and the premise intrigued me. I love stories that give us a couple determined to get together for one thing, be it a charade or a means to an end, and then ultimately fall in love for real. This was a sweet and steamy take on that and although it--or rather someone--bothered me at points, I liked it. It not being quite the thing to advertise in the London papers for a wife, Anthony Earheart, Marquess of Stuanton, eldest son and heir of the Duke of Withingsby, advertised instead for a governess.

I also think this book is a wonderful example of using sex to reveal the characters and further the relationship. It is most definitely not a Tab A into Slot B book. When they arrive at Enfield and Anthony comes into Charity’s sitting room that night, she can’t concentrate on the letter she had begun to her family. She realizes that the tension in the room is sexual tension, and when they do make love it is a powerful experience for both of them. Anthony, who is quite skilled, finds he is too lost in the moment to consciously use those skills. And one of my favorite romance novel quotes comes near the end of that chapter, after Charity has achieved release: “Then he drove himself to the place where he longed to be, the place where he had always longed to be. Always. All his life. Though it was not a place exactly . . .” While his mind may not yet realize it, his body and his heart are falling in love. Book 7, Section 1 of the Civil Code of the Islamic Republic of Iran [footnote 3] outlines the provisions relating to marriage: A woman may seek divorce through the courts [footnote 57] [footnote 58] [footnote 59], although, as noted in the Finnish Immigration Service report: As readers of this review may be able to tell from the above two paragraphs, the growth of the romantic relationship is thoroughly blended with the family’s healing, to a point where it is hard to separate the two. I think the first time I read the book, I wasn’t expecting this and therefore felt it took something away from the romance, but this time I loved this aspect of the book. It is an extraordinary piece of work, a perfect balancing act with terror on one side and love on the other. This exceptionally well-written novel is about suspense, thrill, and drama, including the relationships between generations and what happens between long-standing friends. The characters are sensitively portrayed, as is their recovery, and the hopeful ending is realistic. Readers of domestic dramas will be enthralled. For those who love gritty, somewhat nasty mysteries with weird, and exotic settings in one of the world’s most famous cities, this thriller mystery will satisfy you. It is perfect for a long plane trip or a rainy weekend. The Temporary Wife by Catharina Maura PDF DetailsCommenting in December 2020 on the draft bill aimed at protecting women, HRW noted that, despite having some positive provisions, the bill ‘… does not criminalize some forms of gender-based violence, such as marital rape and child marriage.’ [footnote 79] Keishon: I’m not crazy about 2-in-1 electronic files either but in this case (because of the agency pricing and the out of print prices) I think they are a bargain. The girl came out as pathetic since the guy got a way with a lot and only because he was charming and she 'just' couldn't resist him? Please, the guy was weak, dumb and self-centered when you take a look at the grand scale of things. Love is supposed to be give and take and even if he gave the girl a lot in terms of the financial side of things, he just took and took and took a lot from the girl in the matters of the heart. The IHRDC report noted that Article 1133 of the Civil Code was amended in 2002, adding ‘While the old article provided that a man could divorce his wife whenever he wishes without any judicial procedure, the amended article provides: “A man can divorce his wife under the conditions of the current law and by applying to the court”.’ [footnote 55] RFERL noted ‘According to the bill, the judiciary will be tasked with setting up and sponsoring offices that provide support for women who suffer some type of violence or who are susceptible to violence. The bill also requires the establishment of special police units to ensure the safety of women.’ [footnote 80]
