Description

The Riley RS1 Electric Scooter is the entry model from UK-based firm Riley Scooters. We believe that they are importing the Riley-branded scooters from China, but UK residents benefit from having a friendly voice on the end of a phone in the same country if something goes wrong. If you’ve never used an e-scooter before or you’re not sure which type to get, pop in and have a go on one of our demo models! You’ll be helped by our team and will be riding off in no time. It’s also far more environmentally friendly to replace the battery when it’s spent – or, more likely, to fit a newer, larger-capacity version – rather than junk the entire scooter. Our electric scooters for kids are the perfect introduction to the world of scooters without compromising on safety. Offering a responsive throttle and breaks and enough speed for your kids to feel the thrill of our children’s electric scooter, hop on the Decathlon kiddies electric scooter for your young thrill seekers to get a taste of battery-powered fun outdoors.

The motor on the E365 is 350W average power and the voltage is 42V as opposed to the typical 36V seen on most electric scooters in this range of operation. This gives it some decent pep but uplifts the weight to 13kg. This is a manageable weight but you can definitely feel it if you are lifting for more than a few minutes. Range is better than average for this price point at around 15-20 miles maximum depending on your weight. Before we go any further, it is important to clarify that electric scooters are classified as Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs) and therefore illegal to ride in the UK unless you’re riding on private land with the landowner’s permission. Offenders caught could be penalised and receive points on their driving licence. In contrast, e-scooters are legal in most European countries and US states. We recommend riders always wear a helmet and follow the manufacturer’s safety guidelines before riding. The onboard E-ABS brake helps you regulate speed going downhill, while also recharging the battery. A range of >15 miles is not uncommon which can cover a decent loop in an hour or two with a pint en route! But remember people – it’s best not to get drunk as a skunk and then scoot!

The new battery supplied is cheap quality, much lower capacity which is clearly stated on the battery and different from the original but Hayden still keeps lying and lying. Other customers seem to have very similar experiences.

This allows you to easily carry it up stairs or through a train station, and at 13kg it's one of the lightest options on the market, although it's still important to remember that it will take some effort, depending on your strength level. When it comes to buying gadgets and technology products, particularly in the Kids Riding Vehicles category it’s important to invest in good quality products. RILEY RS1 V2 Electric Folding Scooter is no exception. There are a number of reasons why quality is so important when it comes to these types of products. The handlebar ‘dashboard’ area is similarly clean and intuitive to use. The display unit at the top of the steering column shows your speed and battery life clearly. It also allows you to turn on the useful front and rear lights as well as to ring the bell! The Riley RS1 features a handy digital dashboard displaying your current speed, battery level, drive mode. Description The RS1 electric scooter from Riley Scooters gives you a smooth, reliable and safe ride – and it does it in style! Enjoy your new e-scooter with complete confidence due to the long lasting Panasonic detachable battery, that has a rapid 2 hour charge time. The scooter is designed around your safety and comfort with puncture resistant tyres, a lightweight aviation grade aluminium alloy frame, LED lighting and a triple braking system. There is also a smartphone app for the Kirin which is also well designed and actually useful! It allows you to remotely deactivate the motor of the scooter, set cruise control (meaning you don’t need constant thumb pressure on the throttle), search for Google Map destinations and look at the usual ride stats. As apps go, it was one of the best – and not the cheapest scooter in the range!

Tyres on the Hummingbird are 8.5 inches in diameter and they are solid rubber. While this means there is zero chance of punctures (there isn’t any air to escape!), it does mean that the ride is harsher than air-filled equivalents. We found that on smooth tarmac, the ride was fine, but as soon as we ventured over gravel and rougher woodland routes, it became a bit more jarring. Not a major issue for the occasional foray off-piste, but probably not the best scooter if that’s going to be your main pursuit.Firstly, high-quality gadgets and technology products tend to be more reliable. This means that they are less likely to break down or malfunction. When you’re relying on a product for an important task, such as work or communication, reliability is key. Investing in a high-quality RILEY RS1 V2 Electric Folding Scooter can give you peace of mind and help you avoid frustrating situations where your device fails you. While the 350W motor provided a good amount of oomph, there were several instances where a steep hill would force me to get off and walk, which is never ideal. Other scooters with similar specs have at least managed to get me up a couple of these hills, even if they did chug along a little bit. The brakes on the Hummingbird consist of a rear mechanical disk brake and the regenerative braking of the motor. There is no additional pedal brake on this scooter which is a bit of a shame, although you don’t really miss it. We found that even from 15mph that stopping can be quite rapid, although you have to allow a bit more room to stop in the wet.

The Riley RS1 electric scooter is an innovative and practical scooter designed to offer the perfect balance between safety, reliability and most importantly – extreme fun! The maximum range per charge is specified as 15.5 miles, so it was disappointing to be down to my last battery bar after just four miles in Sports mode. If you need to be in the ultra-slow Beginner mode to reach this type of range, you’ll be doing a lot of charging. One other thing to mention is that the Kirin is not classed as waterproof. Now this may or may not be a dealbreaker for your intended use cases. After all, if you’re camping and need to whizz to the loos on your scooter (for a whizz!) then you need to be able to go whatever the weather. However, if you’re more likely to only use the scooter on dry day blasts then you can overlook this negative. Horses for courses as they say! READ NEXT: Are e-scooters legal in the UK? Riley RS2 electric scooter review: Price and competition The Riley RS1 Scooter features a large 6.4Ah battery located in the head tube which can be removed when not in use.

The front wheel houses a 350W hub motor which is capable of running at a not-inconsiderate 700W peak power at maximum throttle. This means a top speed of about 15.5 mph (25kph) can be reached which is more than enough for me – I was getting the jitters at around 10mph! The top speed is software limited, and you are likely to void the one-year warranty if any attempts at modifying this are made. When it comes to range, the Riley RS1 offers up to 15 miles which isn’t a headline stat, but it does offer more than enough for daily or weekly riding. If I was riding this every day, I’d have no issue in completing my journey and charging it up in time for my next trip – for comparison it offers similar range stats to the 8TEV B12 Proxi, which is more than double the price. The tyres are 8.5” and air-filled which gives a supple ride. However, I’m personally not a fan of inner-tubed wheels on e-scooters because of the puncture risk. Basically if you get a puncture it is game over for using the scooter on the remainder of your trip, because the process of fixing it is so painful and time-consuming. With the Hawk, I recommend putting some innertube slime into the tyres as this will give protection against thorn and glass etc. The RS1’s bright blue cabling is a nice touch, matching the colour of the thumb throttle accelerator on the right of the handlebar and logo on the stem. The chunky, aluminium stem looks the part, too. It’s much broader than other e-scooters we’ve tested but it lends the RS1 a purposeful, robust look.
