Description

Following the success of Pied Piper Theatre’s Burglar Billlast year, this new two hander for very young children follows a similar format. There is little dialogue in Hare and Tortoise, lots of physicality and gentle joking, a neat narrative shape and some catchy songs. And it all sits very happily in the Yvonne Arnaud’s child-friendly studio space.

So I thought it would be fun to try a little space science experiment in a jar and make our own shooting stars with the kids. Shooting Stars in a Jar Space Experiment for Kids Reward charts for autistic children can help them to understand how their behaviour can have positive consequences or help them achieve simple aims.

Success!

The food coloring will push down inside the oil until it pulls away completely and sinks into the water. Knowing there was potential for this space experiment to get really messy with my kids I make sure to lay down a plastic bag on the floor. Whilst marvelling at the night sky one evening, he realises the star is not quite as happy as he and so sets out to return it to its rightful home.

Even if the experiments did yield fusion reactions, practical technology based on the phenomenon would be a long way off. However, many scientists have already pronounced the new findings dead wrong.Other critics say that the most damning indictment of the new work is an unpublished follow-up experiment by a pair of nuclear physicists, also of the Oak Ridge lab. Fuel Source: Fusion reactors will use two types of hydrogen isotopes as fuel. These isotopes are abundant in seawater and in lithium, both of which are abundant and cheap. One that I will be highly recommending to teachers and schools to share. Several schools that I visit utilise a praise system whereby pupils place a star in the jar for demonstrating positive behaviour and so this would definitely enhance and complement that practice.

Charlie loved making his little bubbles! He said they looked like planets in outer space floating around in the solar system. The fuel source is found in seawater in quantities sufficient to last tens of thousands of years," he said. "The waste product is helium, an inert gas. A viable fusion reactor would provide a secure, plentiful and environmentally benign energy resource to all nations."That space experiment was so much fun for my kids that we decided to give it a try with a glowing twist! He is already thinking about his next project. “I was thinking that maybe I could make a hand-held laser cutter,” says Edwards. “So I’ve been looking into some really high-powered lasers.”

For Maisie who isn’t even 2 yet it was about building strength while she used her pincer grasp to squeeze out some drops. This had just a touch of silly, a little hint of sad parting, a friendly closing, and two engaging kids. That all worked for me. You can also find lots more resources created specifically to support and empower children with SEND and their families in our dedicated category. How do I use a reward chart with my child? Fusion occurs when two nuclei of atoms join. This fusing creates a great deal of energy – about 3-4x more than that created by fission and one million times more than chemical reactions. Fusion is the process by which the sun and other stars work. In stars, immense gravity causes hydrogen and other ions to fuse. If nothing else, [Justin Atkin] is persistent. How else do you explain a five-year quest to create sonoluminescence with simple tools? The basis of the new energy source would be so-called sonoluminescence–a phenomenon in which bubbles of vapor in a liquid bombarded by sound waves rapidly implode, generating heat spikes and flashes of light in the bubbles (SN: 10/6/01, p. 213: Shrimps spew bubbles as hot as the sun). Taleyarkhan and several of his Oak Ridge colleagues collaborated on the research with scientists from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., and the Russian Academy of Sciences in Ufa. On the other hand, scientists have produced tabletop fusion, for instance by zapping small clusters of atoms with high-powered lasers (SN: 3/27/99, p. 196: https://www.sciencenews.org/sn_arc99/3_27_99/fob1.htm). My kids love science experiments! And they also love outer space and stars. So what better idea then a shooting stars in a jar space experiment activity for kids? I absolutely love that this takes all the prep work out of engaging my children. It is so easy to just put up the calendar, and glance at it for inspiration when we are in a funk." - The Activity Room Member, Rachel
