Description

The main character of Sean Barker is played very close to his manga counterpart "Sho Fukamachi" with only some Slight differences in his name, age and more realistic and mature approach in dealing with the responsibilities that come with possessing the violent power of the Guyver unit. Sean discovers that the Guyver seems to bring out the most violent side of him which leads to a tendency for uncontrolled, indiscriminate killing. That and his constant obsession with taking down the Chronos organization (which was thought to have been destroyed in the first Guyver movie, but Sean believes otherwise)has left Sean Barker without any friends, all alone in the world. He is afraid to get close to anyone since he is still a target for Chronos and he fears he may accidentally hurt those he cares about should the Guyver's violent side manifest. The second difference is that unlike Sho, who seems to fine with the violent tendencies and highly destructive powers of the Guyver, Sean Barker chooses to use the Guyver merely to augment his own fighting skills, only giving in to his savage violent side and using more destructive force when absolutely necessary. He is given ample character development in this movie and ends up coming across as a very likable character in the end. David Hayter turns in a strong performance as the main protagonist and masterfully portrays the part of a reluctant individual cursed with an alien power that he would rather have not have. The fight scenes are AMAZING!!! Bloody, brutal & fast paced stunning fight sequences, some of the best creature fights in movies, like an Adult version of a Power Rangers episode or movie. What is all done here & on display with it's tiny budget is truly incredible!!! A great piece of filmmaking. I know what you're thinking. What about the first Guyver movie? Well, all you need to know it starred Mark Hamill and it wasn't very good. I had the pleasure of interviewing Writer/Director Steve Wang about his directorial career: soundcloud.com/the-important-cinema-club/interview-steve-wang-wont-sleep-till-the-last-punch-is-thrown If you can get over the film’s blatant disregard for the property that inspired it, and enjoy it as a piece of B-movie madness, it’s actually a lot of fun. Jeffrey Combs shows up in the last act (playing a mad doctor, naturally), and as goofy and lumbering as they are, the various mutants have a curious charm. One of them looks a bit like an elephant.

After being threatened by his boss for his team's repeated failures to get rid of the Guyver, Crane merged with the damaged Guyver Unit. He fought Sean as a hybrid Guyver/Zoanoid, referred to as the Guyver Zoanoid, and was dominating the fight with his combined powers until his damaged Control Medal started to malfunction. With his Guyver suit starting to eat him alive, Crane was occupied long enough for Sean to destroy him with the Mega Smasher rather than let him suffer a very painful death. Lots more fighting stunts with the guyver in this film as he had learned to master other aspects of his suit, including a pretty awesome ability in the final battle, only clue is that the guyver really gets a lot off his chest. his transformation sequence is greatly improved over the original film as has the storyline which paints a bigger picture about the guyver and the zoanoids (bad guys) and their origins. Took a Level in Badass: Between movies Sean's activated his armor's head laser and improved his fighting skills, justified by the Guyver unit compelling him to fight as a vigilante. Like Both Screaming Mad George, Steve Wang was adept at creating monster effects, and Wang worked on the prosthetic effects for such films as Hellboy II, Alien: Resurrection and Predator. Unfortunately, neither George nor Wang has much skill at directing actors, and The Guyver is full of stilted, sometimes hilarious dialogue (“I’m sure the inventors of the atom bomb didn’t know what they were doing either”), and some blank-faced acting from some otherwise okay performers. At the camp, Atkins and his commandos prevent Crane from executing the archaeological team and safely evacuate them. However, Atkins is captured and his commandos are brutally murdered by one of the escaping Zoanoids.

Guyver: Dark Hero was released direct-to-video in the United States in 1994. The film is also alternatively released as Guyver 2: Dark Hero in the US. In the Philippines, the film was released by Solar Films in theaters as Predator 3 on March 9, 1995, rated "PG 7" by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). [4] Critical response [ edit ] He was the liason between the Tempus Corporation and an archeological excavation team the corporation was funding. In truth he was a Chronos agent sent to keep an eye on the dig team because what they were excavating proved to be an intact Creator ship containing a Guyver Unit that's later shown to be damaged. He appealed to Sean to join them, saying that the secrets in the ship could make both of them normal again. This was most likely a ruse, though, as Sean immediately refuse due to his past history with Chronos.

Guyver: Dark Hero (1994) - IMDb

Although most of the acting isn't very impressive, The Guyver: Dark Hero is a well-paced and immensely entertaining sci-fi action film with a solid and likeable lead performance from David Hayter, well-shot and expertly choreographed fight scenes, terrific make-up and creature effects, an interesting story, and competent direction from Steve Wang. Defiant to the End: After having the electricity for the camp blasted into her, the fried female Zoanoid grabs at Atkins' ankle as her final act before Atkins finishes her off. The Remnant: Chronos in this film are largely acting in secret at least publicly, having their LA base destroyed by Sean last movie and being embroiled in a secret conflict with the US government. That said, given they operate in plenty of other cities in secret and Guyot is in charge where Balcus left off. Then came Guyver 2 this time helmed by Wang and it has to be one of the best sequels ever made. It stays more true to the comic, featuring some very cool monsters and some brilliant fight scenes choreographed by Drive action director Koichi Sakamoto which Steve Wang also directed.

Mercy Kill: After ripping out Crane's Control Metal, he begins to agonizingly melt. The damaged Control Metal has some kind of interaction with Sean's, prompting him to vaporize Crane with the Mega Smasher.

It has been a year(Or three depending how you look at it) Since Sean Barker first became the Guyver and destroyed the Cronos Corperation and their shape changing killers the Zionoids. R-Rated Opening: Dark Hero, makes it clear within minutes that it earns its R rating, with some strong language, talk of cocaine smuggling, and two bloody deaths. At first glance, it seems as George and Wang have done a good job on the Guyver costume. It has the same cool silhouette, broad shoulders and bony protrusions as the one in the comic, and the brief sequence where it takes over Sean’s body is quite impressive. Bandai and Hero Communications approached Screaming Mad George to do the effects work for the film based on his work in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, George agreed on the condition he could direct and brought along with him producer Brian Yuzna and fellow effects artists Steve Wang. [2] George and Wang completed the movie’s principal photography in five weeks, beginning in October 1990, shooting on locations in Simi Valley and Los Angeles. [2] The two began directing side by side before splitting up into separate units with Wang responsible for handling the majority of the film’s action scenes. [2] George said of the production: The animated version of Guyver is a lot more serious and meant for adults. It had a lot of gory violence and adult themes. As we got into script development, we realized that with the budget and schedule we had to shoot the movie, we’d probably be better off making it for a broader audience, like a PG-I3. While Yoshiki Takaya’s series was shot through with a streak of inner turmoil, melty violence and body horror, the 1991 American movie adaptation was more akin to the 1960s Batman TV series. It’s wildly camp – sometimes cringe-inducingly so – but also guiltily enjoyable. The real star of the movie is the fight scenes. They are well-thought-out bouts that happen on both water and land. Coming close was the fantastic-looking alien ship. Glowing walls and a camera that moves slowly in a circle help disorientate and make something that could have been rather pedestrian appear more alien than it might have been.
