Description

And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; … You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Seeing fires burning on the other side of the Severn, Derfel discovers that Lancelot has suddenly attempted to usurp the Dumnonian throne by inciting religious unrest. Arthur and Derfel are presumed killed in Cadoc's ambush, and Mordred is believed to be murdered. Mobs of fanatical Christians are hunting down pagans all across Dumnonia, announcing Lancelot as their savior-king, and many of Arthur's oath-sworn bannermen have sided with Lancelot. Cerdic is besieging the majority of Arthur's army under Sagramor on Dumnonia's frontier. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life!Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Don't love the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you cannot love the Father. Strong's 25: To love, wish well to, take pleasure in, long for; denotes the love of reason, esteem. Perhaps from agan; to love.

For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Yes this is well worth asking: Am I an enemy of God?

Strong's 5384: Friendly; subst: a friend, an associate. Properly, dear, i.e. A friend; actively, fond, i.e. Friendly. because the mind of the flesh [is] enmity to God, for to the Law of God it does not subject itself, If the death of his Son restored our relationship with God while we were still his enemies, we are even more certain that, because of this restored relationship, the life of his Son will save us. Strong's 1510: I am, exist. The first person singular present indicative; a prolonged form of a primary and defective verb; I exist.

In the previous verses, James has been blunt: His readers have been living according to worldly wisdom. The wisdom of the world says that to be successful, we must do whatever it takes to get what we want out of life. We must provide for ourselves; nobody else is going to. We must be willing to fight for what we want.Don't love the world and what it offers. Those who love the world don't have the Father's love in them. Even you from the first were aliens and enemies in your minds because of your evil works, and now he has given you peace, With Lancelot in retreat, Arthur grimly asserts to Derfel that their oath to the deceased Uther binds them to acclaim Mordred as Dumnonia's king, but he will be a pure figurehead, and Arthur himself will be the land's sole ruler. Derfel, remembering something Merlin said, suggests that Arthur be known as Imperator, a Roman title understood to mean "ruler of kings." To disobey God for selfish reasons is to be an enemy of God. For instance, Satan, out of ego, refused a direct command from the Lord, making him the very first enemy. Despite knowing that the Lord is the Almighty One and has immense authority over him, Satan kept on disobeying him. Ultimately, God will have victory over His enemies: "For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death" (1 Corinthians 15:25–26). In the end, Satan, the demons, people who chose to live in rebellion to God, and even death will be defeated by God (Revelation 20:13–15). The enemies of God are no match for Him. After God defeats His enemies, His people will live free of pain and sorrow: "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away" (Revelation 21:4)

The incredible fact is that “when we were God’s opponents, we were reunited with him through the crucifixion of Jesus” (Romans 5:10). As God loves human beings so much, whenever man positions himself against God, he fights to reestablish their connection with him via the death of Jesus, his only begotten Son, that enables them to have eternal life, as Jesus is the Passover Lamb of the entire world (John 1:29). Rom. 5:10- For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And you, being in time past alienated and enemies in your mind in your evil works, yet now hath he reconciled You know yourself, He said you know yourself that you have been pretending to be a part of this work but you are against it. All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:
