I had 6 curtains ranging anywhere from 93″L – 96″L – UGH!! That meant that the 3 curtains that were around 93″L would NO LONGER WORK! These are just recommendations, but they will give you a good idea of how to measure for curtain rod placement, finials, curtain rings/hooks, and curtain panel fullness. Now, they are made out of plastic. But that was fine for me because they are super light, and don’t weigh down my smaller diameter curtain rod. Using curtain wires is a simpler solution than putting up a rod. It’s a less visible, more discreet option. It’s perfect if you want something subtle that emphasizes your glorious drapery.

I just wanted to show some before and after pictures, so you can have an idea of what our living room windows look like. So in the picture above, you can tell how the curtain hangs closer to the rod than the one using the rings with clips version. The first thing you will want to do is measure your window height and width, including any trim. Then you can decide how high and how wide you want to mount your curtains. We had this Great Value bleach left over from all of the bleaching from the flood – and I had accidentally bleached out something with it.

For my living room I knew that the trim is 95 1/2″H, and my curtain rod is 98 1/2″H (3 inches higher) because I was using curtains I already owned that were 98″L. Are pinch pleat curtains out of style? Pleated panels are a classic style of drapery and so never really go out of fashion, although their popularity rises and falls with current trends. They look quite formal, so work best with formal or traditional decorating styles. Pinch pleat is the most common style. What curtains to use with clips? pinch pleat is the same as French pleat. Two prong pleats are good for showing off a patterned fabric and using more drapery rings. Grommets are casual and more modern. Pleating to the top makes the drapery appear to be directly attached to rings. TIP #3: This Walmart Great Value Brand – actually bleaches/whitens the RITVA curtains ….. AND clothes. So be careful with anything else you may accidentally splash when using it.

Modern curtain rails and track systems

Simply mount the ends on the wall or in the ceiling and add the curtain hooks and textiles. The length of the wire is adjustable, so you can always get the measurements just right. On top of that, it goes around corners as well. That way, you can place it above corner windows or a door entrance. Or why not let it expand from a window and along your entire wall? Also consider whether to use curtain rings or not. Using curtain rings can add a good amount of exciting detail to your room. But if you have a very ornate design, they might make the room look busy and over-elaborate. Winding wires

This 95 1/2″H – 96″H trim (yes this happens a bunch, window widths will be also be a little different) means that I needed either a 96″L curtain + 2 1/2″– 3″ rings/clips, or a curtain that was at least 98″L or longer to cover the top trim and windows.The reason I wanted to go over all of this (I know it’s boring) is because choosing the style and hanging method is the most important part of the entire process. Now that you know you’re window measurements, it’s time to choose your curtain style, and how you will hang it. But IKEA’s curtains are typically 98″ long (also too short for my dining and living room but long enough for the bedrooms), and they make a few styles in 118″ long. As you may know, IKEA’s curtains come un-hemmed. The raw edge is finished with the serger, and you can cut off and/or hem as needed to the right length. Much better – right? The curtains just add a simple, “finished” touch to the room without screaming for attention. NOTE: If you want these whiter, wash them again. They were a softer “white linen” color after one wash, and they were worked with my color scheme.

And they were more yellow-ish/creamier than I remember, but I knew these 6 curtains were going to HAVE to work.I did a little digging and found this diagram from World Market that explains how to measure your windows and choose how you want your curtains to look. Remember that we turned the curtain hook upside down, so we aren’t exactly using it the way it was intended; if we use the hook the way it comes, our curtain ring will be parallel to the curtain and, more critically, to the curtain rod. Then I let them hang over my dining room chairs for another day. And they GREW…..and they were WHITER!! The next hook goes in at the other end. Insert the right most prong into the first available opening on the right. Repeat steps 3-4, but go to the left instead of the right.
