But Brexit is deeper and bigger than our relationship with the EU. We will never get past Brexit if we don’t understand why – when asked – so many millions said they wanted change. The people didn’t just speak. They shouted. Millions told us that the current political and economic system isn’t working. And they are right about that. The Liberal Democrats are the only main party going into the next election promising to end the Brexit chaos. If the Liberal Democrats win the next general election, then we will use that democratic mandate to revoke article 50 on day one and stop Brexit. The dispute was set off by the release on Thursday of a long-awaited report by a British human rights watchdog about anti-Semitism within Labour. In 2019, the agency began investigating accusations that Labour dithered in its response to anti-Semitism allegations and interfered on behalf of Mr. Corbyn’s political allies. Corinna Gardner, keeper of the V&A’s design, architecture and digital department, said the Corbyn logo on the garment was “inherently digital in its translation of online culture and memes into material form [and] enables us to ask questions about the role of data and social media in the recent election campaign”. Hunt, the director of the V&A, said: “As the nation’s storehouse for contemporary design and fashion, we are delighted to acquire the Corbyn T-shirt. It is also a rather strong statement of our belief in curatorial autonomy.”

After a formal investigation, the Equalities and Human Rights Commission — an independent official watchdog group whose recommendations are legally enforceable — said that Labour bore responsibility for “unlawful acts of harassment and discrimination” against Jewish members on Mr. Corbyn’s watch. Mr. Corbyn said that he would “strongly contest the political intervention to suspend me” while also urging members to train their opposition on Mr. Johnson’s government. Analysts said the decision risked reminding voters of Labour’s internal feuds at the very moment it had Mr. Johnson on the defensive over the country’s rising coronavirus deaths and his refusal to provide children with free meals when school is not in session. The remainers think Labour will haemorrhage votes to the Lib Dems and the Greens at the general election under the Corbyn policy that will now remain unchallenged until the election. The Corbynites think turning Labour into a remain-only party would be even more disastrous. There is no way of knowing which analysis is more correct. And a huge amount will depend on what has happened to Brexit by the time the election actually happens. It is quite possible that both arguments are right. The star tweeted: ‘The ease at which large swathes of people can be mobilised into group hate, for highlighting Corbyn’s history of racism using an image of his arrest as part of an extreme group cited as damaging the mainstream anti-apartheid movement, is just one reason Jewish people are worried.

The impact on Britain’s resurgent left-wing opposition was far from certain. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party has been hurt by its bungling of the coronavirus response, creating an opening for Labour less than a year after it was seemingly relegated to the political wilderness by its worst election loss since 1935. Riley tweeted: "The ease at which large swathes of people can be mobilised into group hate, for highlighting Corbyn's history of racism using an image of his arrest as part of an extreme group cited as damaging the mainstream anti-apartheid movement, is just one reason Jewish people are worried. The success of this merch certainly feels pertinent if young people are feeling more politically motivated, as is being floated by the media. The hope today is that they will carry the same message to the polling booth.

The watchdog also described the party as having created a culture that could, at times, be seen as tolerant of anti-Semitism and accused two former party officials of anti-Semitic comments that it said amounted to unlawful harassment. The petition description continues: “Had this been a single lapse in judgement an apology would possibly have been an adequate response. However the persistent and unhealthy campaign based on clearly unsubstantiated claims means that Mrs Riley’s position working for your organisation is now untenable.” Trying to brand me as racist for this, whist lauding themselves as anti-racist heroes, shows just how little regard many people have for anti-Jewish racism, and why I and many others speak so loudly. It’s a hatred which unites the far right, far left and is having a resurgence.’ Mr. Corbyn retains his seat in Parliament, but loses, at least temporarily, any affiliation with Labour. LONDON — Britain’s main opposition party, Labour, suspended its former leader Jeremy Corbyn on Thursday after he deflected blame for the party’s handling of anti-Semitism allegations, setting the stage for an extraordinary rupture with Labour’s recent past and another period of tortured infighting over its future.
